for 900,000 dollars with some incentives too....for a 6th guy for the rotation, and long-relief in the pen, i'll take it

we also avoided arbitration with Humberto Quintero and signed him to a 1,000,000 dollar contract....not exactly noteworthy, but Brett Myers had a 2.68 ERA when they were battery-mates

I'm unsure at this point about the Bill Hall deal. He's an excellent utility man and can not only play all over the infield, but has Major League experience in center field in the event Bourn is injured. On the drop side, he's extremely inconsistent and can't hit lefties to save his life. He batted nearly .300 last season with Boston against right-handers, but his average against lefties was below the .200 mark...pretty pathetic. He does have some power.

Bottom line; Keep him out of the lineup whenever you face a lefty and this is a good signing.

Astros and LHP Wandy Rodriguez avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a three-year, $34 million contract extension.

This is a fair deal for both sides. Wandy has been very productive over the last two-seasons. He was someone I was hoping the Dodgers would try to acquire earlier in the off-season.

[NOTE]Rodriguez gets a $1.5 million signing bonus and salaries of $7 million this year, $10 million in 2012 1and $13 million in 2013. The option is for $13 million with a $2.5 million buyout, and if Rodriguez is traded it becomes a player option.[/NOTE]

once Lilly signed for 3 yars/33 million, it gave the Astros a better idea of what Wandy's value is...i was hoping for something like 10 a year, but i think the term is good and the vesting option is a good idea....

it would be nice if Lopez could repeat his 2010 and be the set-up man that we need now that Lindstrom is gone
