That is a good signing. Over the last 3 years, Bell and Papelbon, compare very even.

Not a move I'd make in the Marlins' position.
His drop in K-rates concerns me; between his age, the drop in K rate, and the move out of Petco, he's the type of pitcher that I'd be concerned about a sharp regression.
I agree with WilsonC on this one. However I am not so concerned about the move out of Petco. I look at age and skill decline being the 2 factors of more concern. His K-rate drop will continue and he may be a pig in a poke by the time the deal is done.
his year in 2010 was a bit above his head. He is not THAT good. However, i think his 2009 and 2011 years are more in line with what you will see. His K-rate dropped closer to what it was before it jumped in 09-10....all pitchers have off years....in any case, i would still take the risk with Bell. You dont save 40+ games 3 years in a row by accident.
Strikeouts are boring - besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. More democratic. ~Bull Durham

Going by the research of many years of retrosheets that showed there is a 85% success rate(all pitchers) of saving a game(3 outs) with 1 run leads, it only requires 48 opportunities for 40 saves. The hard part is holding down the gravy job that all top relievers are after.

First Heath Bell; now Jose Reyes.
Posted in "Hot Stove League Report:"
The first big splash of the off-season has 28 year-old shortstop Jose Reyes, formerly of the Mets, going to the Miami Marlins.
According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the offer is for $106 million over six years, terms which GM Sandy Alderson apparently did not deny
In Reyes, the Marlins have a leadoff hitter who is a .292 career batter with a .341 on-base percentage and 370 stolen bases. Should the Marlins choose have Emilio Bonifacio hit second, they would have two of the fastest players in the game at the top of the order.
"I think about the cosmic snowball theory. A few million years from now the sun will burn out and lose its gravitational pull. The earth will turn into a giant snowball and be hurled through space. When that happens it won't matter if I get this guy out." Bill Lee
The Marlins also get a leadoff hitter who rarely walks and can miss 30-40 games a season. But hey, I'm not bitter. The Mets were never going to pay him that kind of money - and I'm not so sure it will be a great investment over the long-term. For sure, there will be some immediate short-term gratification.
The Miami Marlins have traded starter Anibal Sanchez and second baseman Omar Infante to the Detroit Tigers for prized pitching prospect Jacob Turner and other prospects, according to a high-ranking Marlins official with knowledge of the deal.
The Tigers have confirmed the trade is official.
"A real solid player to us, one of the better second basemen in the MLB," Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said of Omar Infante.

MIAMI -- Kevin Mattison will be with the Marlins in Spring Training after all.
After clearing waivers, the Marlins on Friday outrighted Mattison to Triple-A New Orleans. The 27-year-old also will be at Spring Training as a non-roster invite.
Mattison, a left-handed-hitting outfielder, was designated for assignment on Wednesday to clear roster room for reliever Sam Dyson, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays.
Mattison batted .241 with 13 home runs, 41 RBIs and 26 stolen bases for New Orleans in 2012. He appeared in three games for the Marlins.
The Marlins right now have 72 players preparing to participate in Spring Training.
Huge thanks goes out to YBF for the awesome sig
