IMO, the A's won't go nowhere until Wolff & Beane quit treating players exactly like stock on the market. Mark Ellis was the last player A's fans could identify with over the years. The main job of the GM is to keep fan demand up and Beane has destroyed it.

The A's have agreed to terms with manager Bob Melvin on a three-year deal that will make him their permanent manager.

Melvin took over the A's on an interim basis midseason, after the club fired Bob Geren.

The A's, who played to a 27-36 record before letting Geren go, have a 42-48 record since Melvin took over. Maybe with a full year, he can improve on this record.

Not unless Beane gives him different/same, buttons to push. Bob Melvin won the 2007 NL manager of the year award and was whistling dixie and kicking a can down the road, less then 2 years later. IMO, the only difference a manager can make with players is from the neck up.

It's good to see that MLB believes in recycling (sarcasm). I heard that Brad Pitt is available.
I watched the Indy 500, and I was thinking that if they left earlier they wouldn't have to go so fast.

Any good stockbroker who brushed up on baseball a bit could replace Beane. I'm serious. All Beane does is use players thru their first 6 years, like the old days of the reserve clause and sells his young pitchers with the inflated Oakland ERA's and buys cheap FA's with crossed fingers to replace his better position players he sells. Any stockbroker could do this to make himself money if he didn't care about killing demand as Mr. Beane has done.

---------- Post added at 12:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 AM ----------

Billy Beane VP & General Manager
    3 years/$3.3M (2006-08), plus extensions through 2014

    2 years (2013-14)
signed extension through 2014 on 6/13/07
    4 years (2009-12)
signed 2009-12 extension 4/05, after ownership change
extension included 4% ownership stake in the club for Beane
What I would like to know is why Beane is killing demand with 4% ownership? In the long run, higher demand will kick him more profit. Cots Baseball Contracts don't state what the salary is for Melvin but I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't get a ownership kick, in his contract. You know, the birds of the same feather, theory.

The Oakland Athletics are trying to make a deal with the Texas Rangers that will bring Japanese pitcher Koji Uehara to Oakland. Uehara (36) would add some veteran presence to the Oakland bullpen.

The Oakland Athletics have finalized a four year 36 million dollar deal with Yoenis Cespedes.

Cespedes will be on the 40-man roster after Scott Sizemore will be placed on the 60-day DL. Sizemore has a tear in his left knee that will keep him out for the season.

Struggling starter Tyson Ross is demoted to AAA as Cespedes is activated from the DL. A possible replacement in the rotation is Travis Blackley.

The Oakland Athletics have acquired Chris Young in a trade.

In exchange for Young and cash considerations totaling $500,000 to offset the All-Star's salary, the A's traded away infielder Cliff Pennington and infield prospect Yordy Cabrera.

Cabrera was part of a three way deal with the Marlins. He was sent to Miami in exchange for Heath Bell, who was sent to Arizona.
