The Minnesota Twins signed Japanese 2B Tsuyoshi Nishioka to a three year 9.25 MM contract. Nishioka played for the Chiba Lotte Marines and won the Japanes championship with that team last season.
if he hits like he did in Japan, his OPS will be around .800 and he will have some speed on the bases...and unlike other Japanese guys, he is coming over at a relatively young age (24-25).....the Twins always make thrifty moves, so hopefully this one turns out in their favor
I hope for the Twins that he can adapt to the American lifestyle.
After three years (at the end of his contract) Jojima of the Mariners went home to Japan because he could not get used to American life.

The Twins signed former Atlanta Braves left-hander Chuck James to a minor league deal, personnel director Mike Radcliff said Monday.
James last pitched in the majors in 2008, when he went 2-5 with a 9.10 earned-run average for the Braves before having rotator cuff surgery. Coming off an elbow injury, he is one of the Twins' 12 minor league free-agent signings this offseason.
All have been invited to spring training, which starts Feb. 17 in Fort Myers, Fla.
Radcliff said the Twins still are looking for players to fill out the training camp roster for manager Ron Gardenhire.
"We're starting to get close to the normal number for spring training, around 54 guys," Radcliff said. "Gardy likes competition at every spot, so we'll have around 24 pitchers and 30 position players."
The Twins also signed outfielder/first baseman Jeff Bailey, who played parts of three seasons with the Boston Red Sox and was the International League MVP in 2008, when he hit .301 with 25 home runs and 75 RBIs for Class AAA Pawtucket.
Among other players signed and invited to camp:
OF/1B Justin Huber, 28, who played one game with Minnesota in 2009 and in Japan last season;
C Rene Rivera, 27, who played 53 games with the Seattle Mariners from 2004-06. He has a .227 career batting and has thrown out 37 percent of base stealers;
IF Chase Lambin, 31, a career minor leaguer who played 58 games with Tsuyoshi Nishioka's former team, the Chiba Lotte Marines, in 2009;
IF Ray Chang, 27, who hit .298 with Boston's Class AA team in Portland last season;
C Steve Holm, 31, who played 53 games with the San Francisco Giants from 2008-09 and has a career .264 batting average.
Nothing is engraved in stone yet, but the negotiations between the Twins and Carl Pavano are making progress.
He went 17-11 with a 3.75 ERA for the Twins in 2010 and led the team in wins along with innings pitched (221 2/3). Pavano made $7 million last season.
I wish the ******** would have done so well during his stint with the Yankees.![]()
