The Kansas City Royals have signed Jonathan Broxton to a one year contract, pending a physical.
The deal, for $4 million plus $1 million in incentives, is pending a physical examination, an important step because Broxton is coming off elbow surgery in September.
Broxton is signed for the setup role for Joakim Soria.

On March 20, the Royals traded minor league pitcher Kevin Chapman and a player to be named later to the Astros for outfielder Jason Bourgeois and catcher Humberto Quintero. Quintero will provide some much needed coverage at catcher while Salvador Perez is sidelined with a knee injury. Bourgeois will add some more outfield depth and speed to what is already a swift outfield.
