Blame Columbus for that. It is something that has grown historically. Cleveland Indians pronounces a bit easier than Cleveland Native Americans.
Sorry Buccos, you come up with the reason that the name is demographically/geographically wrong, another person claims it may be racist. One can think of hundreds of reasons to ban the name, but IMO it should stay as it is as long as it is not racist or insulting. In that case we may even consider to rename the Yankees. In Europe that name is a term of abuse for Americans (USA).
EDIT: "As long as it is not racist of insulting". I feel the next question coming: "Who decides wheter it is racist or insulting? I think the majority of society.
