Didn't expect this either, came out of no where. Well it definitely adds another solid bat to that potent Rangers offense.

pooh555, the Blue Jays are still scheduled to go to arbitration with Jose Bautista and Jason Frasor, which will be the first time since 1997. I think Frasor will be traded before the season, not necessarily before arbitration though.
As for the Napoli trade, I don't really get it. Anthopoulos isn't finished making moves so we'll see what happens next. I thought Napoli was a good fit, but likely wasn't in the plan going forward.

Too bad Frasor isn't an SP. Otherwise I would have liked that the Yankees would have gone after him. But their bullpen is stocked with decent/good relievers already.
I was surprised by the move the Jays made with Napoli. Sure it has happened before (Mike Piazza from the Dodgers to the Marlins to the Mets within a week), but I did not expect it to happen.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed reliever Jason Frasor to a $3.5 million, one-year contract with a 2012 club option at $3.75 million
Home run champion Jose Bautista and the Toronto Blue Jays finalized a $65 million, five-year contract on Thursday.
Bautista gets $8 million this year and $14 million in each of the following four seasons. Toronto has a $14 million option for 2016 with a $1 million buyout.
That's a good move; they need a guy like him to keep ticket sales going, especially if they ever want to contend in the AL East.
They absolutely did not need to do that.

The more I look at the Bautista deal, the more I like it.
There's risk involved, and I don't think many people expect him to hit 50+ HR again, but he's also not being paid like an elite player. If he averages about 25-30 HR with an OBP north of .350, he'll be a reasonable value. There's a chance he regresses below that of course, but there's also a reasonable chance he far exceeds that. There's both upside and downside risk, and the cheap option year gives the team the ability to hedge the downside risk while taking advantage of the upside.
