    Seattle Mariners Checking In

    Hi all,

Just thought I would stop by and tell you something about myself since I just joined your forum. I live near Seattle so I am a long suffering, loyal Mariners fan and a huge baseball fanatic! My collection of baseball books is growing near the two-hundred level and I have already read the majority of them. I love baseball history and baseball simulations. I don't care much for baseball video games, but I love baseball simulation games that produce life-like realistic statistics. I am big on Major League Baseball history and my niche is the old "Blackball" or Negro League stuff. I own Strat-O-Matic baseball (computer and cards and dice versions) and I have put together rosters and teams for more than thirty of the best ever (IMHO) teams from the old "Blackball Leagues". These teams are mostly from the USA, but I have one from Cuba and one from the Dominican Republic.

Anyway, I live in Washington state, divorced with three grown sons. That is probably enough information about me, or maybe too much.

    Terry

    Welcome to the board!

I know a Cardinal fan that lives here in Colorado and still knows many stats in his head from playing Strat-O-Matic as a kid.

    Hi Terry,

I too love the game's history. The black history has always been so difficult because of the lack of accuracy even within the records that are available to the public, but maybe that will begin to improve with time. Anyway, welcome aboard! Certainly glad to have you...-BH

Welcome to the Nation Man. You have found the right place, esp. if you love the history of the game.

Some things you may want to take note of due to your stated interests:

    Baseball Hall of Fame Section
    Baseball Book Review Thread
    Virtual HoF Series
    Baseball Interview Section

Also, have you ever played Baseball Mogul? It's a great simulator.

    Hi Old Sweater,

I have played Strat-O-Matic baseball since 1973 and it made me quick at math.

    Hi BobH,

Actually that has changed tremendously and it continues to improve monthly with Websites such as:
    http://www.seamheads.com/NegroLgs/ and http://www.baseball-reference.com/nlb/

Thanks for the welcome and the ideas RickD. Yes, I used to buy Baseball Mogul and some other baseball games every year. I always find myself missing Strat-O-Matic baseball when I play the others. The statistical accuracy is high and you can play with teams and or players from any year in history. I put together thirty-two of the best teams (for a single season) from the old "Blackball Leagues" for my Strat baseball that are close to being historically accurate.

Thanks to Mudge and yankeebiscuitfan for the welcome. I did notice quite a few Mariners fans here!

Thanks for the tip, Terry. Of course I'm very familiar with baseball-reference and use it all the time but the seamheads site is a new one to me. It is now on my favorites list.-BH
