^^^^Baseball-Reference shows it at .301.....hmmmm, i wonder if this is due to different formulas?? i know Fangraphs and BB-R use different formulas to calculate WAR....
Strikeouts are boring - besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. More democratic. ~Bull Durham

Ok, i checked it out and BB-R and Wikipedia both define BABIP as: ed893b7b0405147c8498db6096fce17e.png
I couldnt find the formula that Fangraphs uses, but i have to imagine it is the same....

.05 is about the same. Still just a difference of perhaps 3 hits for the 2012 season.
BR and Fangraphs may tweak the main formula a bit different???

Lincecum is 2-8 with a 6.19 ERA, the worst among all qualifying starters in baseball. The Giants are 10 games below .500 (2-12) when Lincecum pitches, 16 above .500 (36-20) when anyone else starts.
Batters are hitting .265 off him, the highest mark of his career, and the .812 OPS (on-base-plus-slugging percentage) is 128 points higher than his worst season.
Lincecum not only is winless since April 28, but the Giants have lost his last nine starts. He has yielded four or more runs in 10 of his 14 starts, lasting more than seven innings once.
Will Lincecum right the ship or this the beginning of the end of his career. ?
He's been giving up more homers and hits, but compared to the rest of the pitchers in the league, it shouldn't bump his ERA by that much. I still think there's a ton of bad luck behind the numbers. His strand rate is 15% below career norms and his BABIP against is still sky high. If he can stop walking so many hitters than his season may turn around. I don't believe this to derail his career just yet.

I already did the calculations. The BABIP is a matter of close to 10 hits. Calculations are at the first page of this thread.
Sometimes, 10 well-placed hits can mean 8 runs or so. Lincecum has also given up home runs at a higher rate this year so that also contributes to an immense amount of earned runs considering how many base runners he has allowed this year.
Yes and I corrected them. You're supposed to divide the hits by the BABIP not multiply in order to cancel out units to get batters faced. Then multiply by the different BABIPs to get the differences in hits amongst the different BABIP values in question of comparison.
