    Cecil Travis

This is my first post here but I always thought Cecil Travis gets overlooked for the HOF. He lost 4 years due to WW2 and before he left for the military he was on his way to a HOF career. I always felt had he played in NY or a big market city his name would be recognized more.

I dont feel he has career stats that are HOF but how do you put a guy like Hal Newhouser in who pitched during WW2 against a watered down league and not guys like Cecil Travis or Mickey Vernon. Even Gil Hodges.

WW2 credit for players who served should be honored and not forgotten.

Yet during this next election Allie Reynolds will be elected because he pitched for the Yankees.

Ted Williams and Bob Feller both said he should be in. Travis lost his career to fighting in The Battle Of The Bulge. (FrostBite) He signed up before there was even a draft and he saw combat unlike alot of players who were drafted. Yet he never blames the war for his decline when he came back. He woulda been better than infielders like Joe Gordan and Phil Rizzuto.

There may be a argument on why he shouldn't be in but he deserves alot more respect than what he gets.

Welcome to Baseball Nation. You should create an intro thread.

As far as Cecil Travis goes, I think what works against him is he had 8 good years before the war and 3 lousy ones after. 2 more solid years would have probably put him over the hump. It is hard to judge war years and no telling if he would have seen the decline if he had not served his country.
