Angels optioned 2B Alexi Amarista to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Amarista made the Halos' Opening Day roster on the back of a .339/.351/.554 spring, but had yet to receive an at-bat. With Scott Downs (ankle) ailing, the Angels need to call-up a reliever.
Dutch pitcer Loek van Mil, one of the tallest pitchers in US pro baseball has started the season at AAA Salt Lake.
The 27-year-old had a not so stellar start. In his first appearance on April 6 he gave up four runs on four hits, while recording not a single out. After a solo homerun in an inning on April 8, he had his first scoreless outing on Wednesday. Against Reno he issued just a walk in a scoreless frame. Overall Van Mil has a 3.32 ERA in 144 minor league games for the Minnesota Twins and Angels organizations.

The Angels are expected to call up outfield prospect Kole Calhoun before Monday's game against the A's.
Calhoun is batting .296/.365/.491 with five homers and 31 RBI in 43 games this year at Triple-A. He slugged 22 home runs and stole 20 bases last year in Single-A. The 24-year-old will function as outfield depth while Vernon Wells and Ryan Langerhans recover from injuries.
Angels sent RHP David Pauley outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Pauley was designated for assignment Thursday but has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The 28-year-old posted a 4.82 ERA and 1.93 WHIP over four games with the Halos earlier this month.
