I think they are acting like a big market team. Again it is sad how far behind the Cubs were from other teams in terms of even little things. I remember reading an article on Bleacher Nation talking about Sveum using video analysis of player's swings, and how that was something that was new for the Cubs to systematically video tape everything for people to watch. Compare that to reading Moneyball about the A's a decade ago where it talks about in the middle of a game A's hitters checking video of their swings and location of pitches. This is just one example of how poorly the Cubs have been run for decades.

I disagree with acting like Big Market. Being 15th in payroll kids of prove that point. They exactly in the middle. BUT i do agree they were way behind in other baseball operations cause of past ownership so now Ricketts has to get that all caught up which cost money, so that prolly hurting the payroll as of now.

Major league payroll isn't the only measure of acting like a big market team to me... They are outspending a majority of teams if you really analyze everything they are spending on. It just isn't on the big league payroll yet.

I think things they are spending on in baseball operations, like you said are things that other teams have already spent money on. I just thought a Big Market could spend on these things + MLB payroll

Unforunately right now they have to overspend on the operations stuff to close the gap with the rest of baseball and eventually get ahead of other teams which I know is Theo's goal.
