    Wolf: A's not for sale

Despite some rumours that two parties would be interested in buying the Athletics and keeping the team in Oakland, Athletics managing partner Lew Wolff states that the club is not for sale.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported earlier Monday that two groups, including one that recently dropped out of the bidding for the Los Angeles Dodgers, have expressed "serious" interest in the A's. The former Dodgers bidders made their intentions known to baseball commissioner Bud Selig, according to the Chronicle.

According to Wolf, nobody has contacted the club. Wolf said that someone made that story up.

In the Netherlands we have a proverb: Where smoke is, there is fire. This means that when a rumour like this shows up, there is something going on.

I won't be surprised, now the move to San Jose is unsure.

    To be continued?

I am sure someone wants to swoop in and buy before a stadium gets built and the price goes up

Trouble is Oakland doesn't have the money to re-develop a trash can on their own. Plus the Giants are making it as difficult as they can for them to move anyway with all these territorial rights objections. I cant stand freakin Larry Baer, Giants CEO, he's about 75% of the reason why I hate the Giants.

He's not the only one who's nagging about territorial rights. Remember Pete Angelos, when the Expos were about to move to DC?

I don't understand why the A's were allowed to move to Oakland from KC in the first place. The Giants were already there in a relatively small area.

This is why it on Wolf to build something privately, just like the Giants did. Of course the Giants should make it difficult! They were forced to come up with a plan that was outside of the norm of forcing something on the taxpayer. They built a glorious venue without one dime from Pete and Nancy Taxpayer. If the A's want to compete in this market, it seems reasonable that they compete by the same rules?

The fact also remains that Wolf got a MLB franchise for about as cheap as you can get. I have no sympathy for his cries for a move to San Jose and his hand wringing about how the Commish needs to step in. Buck up, shut up or sell. You knew what you were getting when you bought it!

Does it really matter if anyone likes Baer? This guy has been the point man for less than one year! However, he has been part of the ownership group that stepped in back in 1993. The same group that has built one of the better revenue models in pro sports from scratch, has been supplying a steady stream of top level MLB players for quite a while and has been winning on the field like few teams in this span.
