    St Petersburg International Baseball

I deleted the original thread by accident, so here is another start.

After games vs Canada U18 (17-5 win and 8-3 win), Detroit Tigers (1-3 loss), the Dutch squad took on the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. The Pirates delegation was full of (former) Major Leaguers. This resulted in a 6-0 lead for Pittsburgh after the second inning.

In the remainder of the game, the Pirates scored two more runs and the Dutch managed to score two runs, both on sac flies. In the ninth, the Dutch managed to load the bases, but could not cash in. Notable feat: Dutch Antillian player Shairon Martis pitched the final inning vs his former team mates. Martis fanned three, walked two and allowed one basehit.

    Here are some pics

One player of the Dutch softball team threw out the first pitch. The Dutch softball
team is on a very successful preparation tour in Tennessee and Florida.

    Netherlands beat Braves delegation

Today the Netherlands played a team with Atlanta Braves players (I don't know yet, if many minor leaguers were involved). The Dutch beat the Braves 9-4.

    More to follow.

Like I wrote above, the Dutch national team beat a team of the Braves' organization.
Seven AA players, ten single A and five Rookie Leaguers. The Braves' squad only had one player with MLB experience in its ranks: Buddy Carlyle.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Rob Cordemans retired seven batters. But in the fifth inning the Dutch rebounded by scoring five runs. In the remaining innings the Dutch added four more runs.
Closer Ber van Driel, loaded the bases in the ninth after he hit a Braves' batter and allowed two basehits. Matthew Kennely hit a long double to clear the bases for the final score.

The Dutch pitchers allowed four runs on six hits. The Braves' pitching allowed ning runs on twelve hits. The Braves' defense committed three errors.

Tomorrow, the Dutch will close the tournament with a game vs the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Dutch didn't manage to win the last game of the St. Petersburg International Baseball tournament.

The Dutch took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Rays (containing mainly AA players) came back in their first at bat, scoring one run.

Montgomery Biscuit Henry Wrigley belted a homerun with one man aboard, that gave the Rays a 3-2 lead.

From that moment on the Rays could extend their lead and never looked back.
The Dutch slowly crawled back and trailed by only two runs in the eight inning (7-5).
In the eight inning, the Dutch had a huge chance to even the score and even to take the lead, when they loaded the bases, but they could not cash in.
