San Francisco Giants Giants thinking about moving Posey to different position

Even though GM Brian Sabean doesn't agree, the San Francisco Giants have been thinking to move Buster Posey to 1B at times, just to give him some rest at the position of catcher.

The Giants are even thinking about moving him towards a different position for good. Apparently they are affraid that they may lose the young star and his bat to an injury again.

Last season's play at homeplate proved the danger of his position.

I can imagine the Giants' fear, but I think he is at best behind the plate. He did a helluva job in his rookie season.

I dont think it is a bad idea for them to play him at 1B for 40-50 games just to keep his legs fresh and his bat in the line-up. It worked out really well for Carlos Santana and the Indians last year when he was coming off his knee injury...I think completely moving him from Catcher would be a mistake however.

I think he has more value at Catcher of course but to keep a big bat in that lineup will be huge. We all know they have the SP to win now and future

I agree. 1b from time to time. But moving him for good would be a mistake.

I nearly had a really nice heart attack, I just saw the thread heading which says "Giants thinking about moving" ....and I was sort of hoping it was going to continue with "back to New York City" but then it just carries on with "Posey to different position" which is considerably less exciting for me, oh well!

This is not new news here and Sabean is not opposed.

The correct information is that Buster has been saying he wants to catch, even after his season ending injury. He feels pretty strongly about this and there is no doubt about his ability to catch, call a game, handle a staff and pretty much be the field general wearing the "tools of ignorance."

Bruce Bochy came out about three weeks ago and was talking about his plans to start Posey at 1B for 30 to 40 games to keep his legs fresh and his bat in the lineup. Posey said he likes the idea. And, Sabean and Bochy are on the same page. Sabean has never "disagreed" with the concept of Posey at 1B for a decent amount of time. Remember, this is how Buster was introduced to San Francisco?

I imagine several years down the road, we may see Buster at 1B for more games than he catches. This topic has not been in the discussion mix this winter.

Now, you have the correct information!
