I have been rather surprised by the apparent lack of consideration of Al Lopez. After 19 years as a catcher mostly in the NL, He had a long, extremely successful career as a manager of the Indians and the White Sox. Maybe it's just me...BH

I would happily vote for him as a manager, but not as a player.

I look at veteran ballots as being for their whole career, manager, player, etc.

I agree with Rex, as a Manager, I'd vote for Lopez. But as a player, no chance.

I see that the actual 1977 veterans committee voted Lopez into the Hall for his contributions as a Manager. Thanks BobH for bringing this topic back up as I have amended my original ballot.

Al's managing was excellent and, of, course that's why I voted for him. He had a long but rather mediocre playing career but...I agree...He deserves entry as a manager...not as a player.-BH
