Are player evaluations a waste of time?
"I think about the cosmic snowball theory. A few million years from now the sun will burn out and lose its gravitational pull. The earth will turn into a giant snowball and be hurled through space. When that happens it won't matter if I get this guy out." Bill Lee
Is baseball a waste of time?
In a sense, entertainment exists as a means of passing time. Whether that's wasteful or not depends on your thoughts on the virtues of spending time on frivolous activities for the purpose of enjoyment.
From a fan's perspective, player evaluations follow the same line of thought. If it adds to your enjoyment of the game, it's only a waste of time if you think baseball itself is a waste of time. If it doesn't then it's certainly a waste. Note that the same holds true for other meta-game activities; forums, stats, the Hall of Fame, debates, fantasy baseball - it all falls under the general umbrella of frivolous activities that we do to amuse ourselves.
Agree with Wilson. It's not a waste of time if it entertains one person, in the least bit.

they don't factor in as much as the evaluations made by their coaches. I doubt a scout often identifies a problem that hasnt already been addressed by a coach. If they do, then the coaches need to find a new job
Strikeouts are boring - besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. More democratic. ~Bull Durham
