Jorge Posada HOF?

Wow Posada was very comparable to Fisk. I did not know that.

Based on those stats and what Posada did compared to Fisk, I actually have to amend my original thought and say Heck yeah, put Posada in the Hall!

I REPEAT: Posada and Fisk are NOT comparable. Fisk's stats in post #1 are incorrect. See post #3.

This is not to say that Posada is unworthy; only that he cannot be compared to Fisk. Gabby Hartnett and Bill Dickey, perhaps, but that's a whole different era.

Yeah I hear what you are saying Mudge. I know that was just to a certain age, not for the length of a career. Still at 39 Posada was doing better than Fisk at 39!

I think he's a much better candidate than a lot of people realize. Offensively, he compares favorably with a lot of HoF catchers, but he's also comparable to Ted Simmons, who never got much of a look. That could be what hurts Posada as well; if he was seen as a plus defender his bat would be more than enough to carry his candidacy, but he's more of an adequate defender. Not a bad one, except at the tail end of his career, but most of the guys who were comparable hitters to him were better defenders. He was also a contemporary of Piazza, who was probably the best hitting catcher in MLB history, and I-Rod, who combined premium defense with a pretty good bat and a long career.

He's a rare breed; an underrated Yankee.

As a Yankee fan I have never underrated Posada. See my post #4 in this thread.

A career catcher who helps his team win as consistently as the Yankees did, plus winning five WS and getting into seven defines winning and what the game of baseball is played for. HOF, Posada gets my vote easily, but I don't count.

Just to find out that Superman loaned Fisk a pair of knees. Just to catch the amount of games like Fisk did brings consideration for the HOF.

Seen a lot of Jorge's decline...but looking back at his great Yankee wins and tough Yankee losses, I can confidently say...no way, Jorge. Sorry, Yankee faithful.
