Seattle Mariners Mariners in hunt for Hisashi Iwakuma

The Seattle Mariners are purchasing SP Hisashi Iwakuma. Iwakuma couldn't reach an agreement with the Oakland Athletics after the latter won the negotiation rights last off season. Iwamuka returned to his club in Japan, the Rakuten Golden Eagles. Because of that he is an international free agent now and he can negotiate with any MLB club.

During the negotiations with the As, Iwamuka asked for a similar deal as Barry Zito got at the time with the Giants.

The Japanese pitcher, 30, battled shoulder injuries in 2011, going 6-7 with a 2.42 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 17 starts. Overall, he has a 55-31 record and 2.67 ERA in five seasons.

Next to the Mariners, there are two more AL clubs chasing Iwamuka.

The Orioles being one of them. Not sure who the other team is.
Don't dig for water under the outhouse.

Through thick 'n' thin, I still love my Orioles!

As long as he doesn't fetch a premium I am all for checking in. If the guy is looking for big money then we should definitely pass.

Amazing deal and could be one of the top signings this offseason. Sounds as if he really wanted to come to Seattle and despite it only being a 1 year deal I think he will be here for a few more years after the season is finished. This will be very good for the Mariners rotation.
