At the moment the preliminary rounds for the European Cup for clubs are going on in two European cities: Rotterdam (Netherlands) and San Marino (Italy).
In Rotterdam there were some big surprises yesterday.
DOOR Neptunus (NED) - Rouen Huskies (FRA) 3-6
Danesi Nettuno (ITA) - CB Barcelona (ESP) 2-11
Buchbinder Legionäre (GER) - Technika Brno (CZE) 9-2
Especially the first two games were surprising. Who would expect that two dwarfs will beat giants like Neptunus and Nettuno.
The guy that bothered Neptunus was Chris Mezger, a former pitcher for USC (who had 19 appearances...had a 4-2 record with a 4.56 ERA for USC in 2010). In 7.2 innings he allowed three runs on six hits, fanning nine.
Today two games are played already in Rotterdam:
Rouen Huskies (FRA) - Danesi Nettuno (ITA) 2-4
CB Barcelona (ESP) - Buchbinder Legionäre 0-2
In San Marino there were no real surprises.
L&D Amsterdam (NED) - Fortitudo Bologna (ITA) 3-4 (after a tie break in the 10th inning)
Paderborn Untouchables (GER) - Draci Brno (CZE) 7-4
Hoboken Pioneers (BEL) - San Marino (ITA) 2-13 (8 inning mercy rule)
