    Dutch Hoofdklasse

Last night two games were played, two were rained out.

    Results

    Home teams mentioned first

    L&D Amsterdam - Vaessen Pioniers 10-1
Corendon Kinheim - DOOR Neptunus 4-9

    L&D Amsterdam - Vaessen Pioniers

In the first inning, Amsterdam struck big in the first inning. Normally not a power hitter, Roeland Henrique drilled a homer, with the bases loaded, over the left field fence. Amsterdam was leading by 3-0 already at that stage of the game.
All Pioniers could do was scoring a run on a solo homer by Mark-Jan Moorman.

    Corendon Kinheim - DOOR Neptunus

A big first inning for both team resulted in a 3-4 score. In the third inning, Raily Legito hit a long shot over the outfield fence with a runner on the bases to make it 3-6. Two more homers hit by the Neptunus batters lifted the score to a final 9-4 win for the team from Rotterdam. Losing pitcher was David Bergman, the guy who closed the final game of the World Cup vs Cuba in 2011.

    Update on NPB

The professional leagues in Japan have started as well.

So far 21 games have been played.

The standings in the Central League are:

    Team WonLossTie%GB
    Yakult Swallows 1472.667-
    Chunichi Dragon 1383.6191
    Hanshin Tigers 1293.5712
    Hiroshima Toyo Carp 10122.4554.5
    Yomiuri Giants 8131.381 6
    DeNa Baystars 6141.3007.5

Standings in the Pacific League are:

    Team WonLossTie%GB
    Nippon Ham Fighters 1681.667-
    Softbank Hawks 13101.5652.5
    Lotte Marines 1191.5503.0
    Rakuten Golden Eagles 8112.4215.5
    Orix Buffaloes 8131.3816.5
    Seibu Lions 7120.3686.5

Biggest upset so far are the Yomiuri Giants, say the New York Yankees of Japan. The richest team of them all is underachieving as you can see in the standings.

    More news from Japan

The Seibu Lions will retire former Nishitetsu Lions ace Kazuhisa
Inao's No. 24, sources familiar with the matter said Saturday.

It will be the first retired number since Seibu began to own the
Lions in 1979. Inao died of cancer in November 2007 at age 70.

In 1958, Nishitetsu came back from a three-games-to-none deficit
to win the Japan Series against the Yomiuri Giants, with Inao winning
four straight decisions from Game 4, three of them complete games.

Three years later, Inao won a Japanese baseball single-season
    record-tying 42 games.

Widely known as one of Japanese baseball's greatest pitchers of
all time, Inao logged a lifetime 276-137 record with a 1.98 ERA,
spending his entire career with the Lions until 1969.

Inao led the PL in wins four times and in ERA five times. In
1993, he was inducted into Japan's Baseball Hall of Fame.

Seibu plans to have all players on the team wear No. 24 in a
    game this summer.
