Washington Nationals Ramos kidnapped in Venezuela

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_yl...ramos-abducted

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP)—Professional baseball player Wilson Ramos(notes), a catcher seen as one of the young building blocks for the Washington Nationals, was abducted by gunmen Wednesday from his home in his native Venezuela.

Ramos, a 24-year-old who just finished his rookie season, was taken away in an SUV by four armed men in Santa Ines in central Carabobo state, the spokeswoman for his Venezuelan League team, the Aragua Tigers, said on her official Twitter account.
Pretty bad when armed gunmen march right into a families home.

This is a horrible situation. We can only hope and pray for his safe return.
I understand the car used in the abduction has been found, abandoned. Hopefully it will contain enough clues to find these thugs.

From ESPN: Venezuelan police said 618 kidnappings were reported in 2009, and the numbers have grown rapidly in recent years. In 1998, when President Hugo Chavez was elected, just 52 kidnappings were reported. Security experts say the real number of kidnappings today is much higher because many cases aren't reported to authorities.

Venezuela has one of Latin America's highest murder rates, and violent crime has worsened in recent years. As ransom kidnapping has soared, the government passed a revised law in 2009 that stiffened prison sentences for kidnapping and also allows authorities to freeze the banks accounts of victims' families to prevent them from paying ransom.

Home country or not, I'd stay the hell out of Venezuela....
I wish I could play little league now. I'd be way better than before.

This is just sad and I hope he, and others who have been kidnapped, are found safe and sound.

Horrible news. Disgusted by a lot of the comments. Good thing they are in the minority.

Yeah. Its getting bad down there. Not sure how any MLB team would allow their players to play in Venezuela. Too much of a risk right now.
