    Epstein to Cubs

Traderumors.com came up with this article:

The Red Sox and Cubs have announced that, effective immediately, Theo Epstein will take over as the Cubs' new President of Baseball Operations, according to a joint press release by the two clubs. Both organizations will forego further comment until Tuesday, which is the next scheduled non-game day in the World Series.

The press release indicates that the two sides have "reached an agreement regarding a process by which appropriate compensation will be determined" and the issue will be "resolved in the near term." If the two sides cannot work out an agreement in the next few days, Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com (via Twitter) hears that Bud Selig could step in and act as an arbitrator.

The Red Sox will announce their next GM at a presser Tuesday and it is expected to be Assistant General Manager Ben Cherington. Meanwhile, Padres GM Jed Hoyer is expected to leave San Diego in order to assume the same title under Epstein. Hoyer will reportedly bring assistant GM Jason McLeod along as well.

The Padres have granted permission to the Cubs to speak with Hoyer and McLeod, tweets Dan Hayes of the North County Times. The Padres have a pre-agreed list of Cubs players to choose from as compensation and no other employees will be taken, Hayes tweets. Meanwhile, San Diego won't officially christen Josh Byrnes as GM until after the end of the World Series, says Hayes (via Twitter).
This is confirmed by MLB.com as well.

Will this turn things around for the hard luck Cubs?

I think that Epstein has the potential to impact the Cubs for the good. Can he catch lightning in a bottle twice....good question. He will be under more pressure to do so but I think the Ricketts will let him have a year or 3 to really ry to turn the ship around.

I still don't think everything is worked out with this deal. I am glad that Ricketts decided to make a good investment though, and not take a cheap way out.

New CBA thought for me: absolutely no transactions to be done thru the playoffs. Sort of like the cheap crap Rose done releasing his book during some HOF inductions.

Yeah I think that's fair to a point. During the playoffs fine, let it all be broadcast but during the Series all teams should have a moratorium or news releases.

After the Cubs signed Theo Epstein to a five year 18 million deal, the Red Sox and the Cubs could not agree on a compensation.
Now it is up to Commissioner Bud Selig to do so.

Selig said Friday night he would like to have it done as quickly as possible. He said he gave the clubs more time so they would reach an agreement, but they couldn't.

I'd start the bidding with a new desk or something, and take it form there.

    Well the farce continues.

Both the Red Sox and Cubs have sent written arguments to Bud Selig to underline their opinion of what the Red Sox should receive in return of Theo Epstein.

Selig has not set any timetable to make a decision. I think it would be nice if he figures this out before the start of the season.
