Right-handed pitcher Jose Ascanio threw just three pitches in a rehabilitation start Thursday night in Indianapolis before he was struck on the right side of the face with a line drive. He was removed from the game, taken to a hospital and, after having tests, was diagnosed with a facial contusion.

    His status is uncertain.

    --Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Bad news, but glad to hear he's okay.

DENVER (AP) - Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Jose Tabata left Saturday night's game at Colorado in the first inning after his right hamstring tightened up as he ran out a grounder.

Tabata hit a groundball to shortstop and as he ran down the line, he appeared to begin favoring his right leg, limping slightly as he made his way back to the dugout

Tabata entered the game batting .245 with three home runs and six RBIs. He was replaced by Matt Diaz.

Pittsburgh Pirates placed C Ryan Doumit on the 15-Day disabled list. Left ankle sprain.

Turns out that "sprain" is actually a break. He'll be out longer than 15 days.

Jose Tabata injured his left quadricep while beating out an infield hit in the first inning Sunday against the Boston Red Sox. He will undergo additional tests Monday and the team is expected to make a call to the minors.

A.J Burnett left camp this afternoon after reportedly taking a bunt to the face during drills. He will be flying to the Bucs' Spring Training complex to have his eye examined.

You'll bunt your eyes out with that thing kid! I can't imagine this is too serious. At most he might miss a couple days of workouts.
