Tyler Colvin injured by broken bat

Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin is said to be in stable condition at a Miami hospital after he was hit in the upper chest by a piece of a bat during Sunday's contest in Florida.

The bat shattered during catcher Welington Castillo's at-bat during the Cubs' contest in Florida on Sunday. Colvin was scoring a run from third base at the time when a portion of the bat punctured his chest.

According to the team, Colvin was sent to Ryder Trauma Center of Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami where he was being treated.

Matt Garza was hit in the lower back by a line drive Friday and stayed in the game for two more batters before leaving.

Garza was struck by Jeff Francoeur's liner with one out in the second inning against Kansas City.

"I've got a lot of tattoos over there," Garza said. "It's nothing really. It hit the lower lat under my rib. After I took a deep breath, it didn't hurt."

After manager Mike Quade and a trainer came out to check on him, Garza retired the next two batters. He was then removed for precautionary reasons.

Cubs place both SP Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner on the disabled list.

Just heard about the DL trip for Cashner and Wells, wondering if the Cubs aren't gonna baby these guys after going through Wood and Prior problems

    That really sucks.

No matter how bad or dogged on the Cubs are from year to year, I enjoying watching the games because of the city, the history, the awesome uniforms, and I was looking forward to seeing these young guys develop.

Placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day DL. Recalled C Welington Castillo from Iowa (PCL).

Chicago Cubs Ramirez to miss second game

Aramis's flight was delayed in Florida apparently, and so Blake Dewitt play 3rd tonight against the Giants. It appears like Ramirez should be back for Sunday's finale against Tim Lincecum. The Cubs lineup has been ever changing throughout the year so far, and Ramirez is the only player to not have batted in more than one spot this year. Dewitt has been swinging a hot bat recently, and so hopefully that continues for the Cubs trying to get closer to 500. Castro is batting third with Pena in the cleanup spot and Byrd batting fifth.
