    Streak of Streaks

There are several streaks that seem to be impossible to be ever duplicated or surpassed in baseball. Some of the more notable one's are Cal Ripken's consecutive games streak at 2,632, Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak, and Orel Hershiser's 60 scoreless inning streak.

I've compiled the below 10 streaks that are great accomplishments in their own right, and appear to be unmatched....that is, until a great player or random fluke player decides to re-write the history books. What do you think is the most unlikely streak ever to be passed or matched again?

    Here are the candidates:

That's a pretty impressive list. I wouldn't dare to conjecture which is likely the most durable in the long run.

I am so surprised that this is the record Mudge. I can't believe that it's this low, I was expecting something in the 30's, at least in the 20's. And it to be someone that I have to say I've never heard of before, just blows my mind.

I'd have to go with Vince Coleman's 50 stolen bases in a row without getting caught. It seems to me that teams will do pitch outs and everything possible to prevent stolen bases nowadays

I would say games played. And that just happens to be a record that any one of us could break if we owned our own team.
I wish I could play little league now. I'd be way better than before.

With the way teams pamper their players I don't see Ripken's record being touched.

Alot of these other ones are near impossible too but I just don't see anyone coming close to Cal.

While I do agree with that, that's also what they said about Lou Gehrig's record

It came down to most games, most consecutive hits, games on-base, and stolen bases for me, but I ultimately went with Ted Williams and the most consecutive games reaching base safely. 84 is a ton of games in a row, and I really don't see that happening in my lifetime...although I could easily see any four of those being just about un-breakable.

Cal's streak lasted sixteen and a quarter seasons playing everyday. Players just don't seem to last that long and if they do they certainly wouldn't play everyday. Times are so different now when you take into account how much a player makes.

^Yep, have to go Cal here. 16+ years is tough to do, plus you really ain't helping the team at times, to keep a streak alive

I will also go with Ripken's streak. So many things can factor into that. Ripken played 8243 consecutive innings (about 900 games) from June 5, 1982 to September 14, 1987.

Cal was naturally tough and persevered through so many injuries. He sprained his left ankle in April 1985 (Game 444) and missed an exhibition but played the next night. In September 1992 (Game 1,713), he twisted his right ankle but didn't miss an inning. Ripken twisted his right knee in June 1993 (Game 1,790). He later said, "It was the closest I came to not playing." He broke his nose at the 1996 All-Star Game when Roberto Hernandez accidentally hit him with a forearm while taking a team picture. Ripken repositioned the nose and played. In August 1997 (Game 2,423), he almost left the game with back pain but stayed in and homered.

Any of those injuries could have ended the streak and most players would just take a day off if this happened!
