Ryan Howard has left the Phillies ST camp due to a little setback in the healing process of his Achilles' tendon.

Howard is going to Baltimore to see Dr. Mark Myerson, who did the operation after the All-Star first baseman injured himself on the final swing of the NL playoffs against St. Louis.

The Phils expect Howard to be back on Wednesday.

Ryan Howard has been cleared to do some light exercises in a walking boot, more than two weeks after he needed a procedure to remove an infection around his surgically repaired left Achilles tendon.

Chase Utley will begin the season on the DL due to recurring knee issues. Utley says that he's confident he'll play in 2012, which is not exactly the most upbeat news for Phillies fans. With Utley, Howard, and possibly Polanco out for Opening Day, the Phillies are really going to need to shuffle around a bunch of infielders. Ty Wigginton will probably become a regular spot in the lineup once again.

Jose Contreras (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list by the end of this weekend.

Contreras is scheduled to make back-to-back appearances on Thursday and Friday before meeting with team doctors for a checkup on his surgically-repaired right elbow. If everything looks fine, he should be cleared to join the Phillies' bullpen.

Halladay out 6-8 weeks with a strained right latissimus dorsi. He will join Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Vance Worley, and Jim Thome in a long list of injured Phillies players. Top candidates to replace Doc are Scott Elarton or Dave Bush.

Carlos Ruiz underwent an MRI that revealed a partially torn tendon in his left foot. He's expected to miss four to six weeks.

Ruiz, 33, was enjoying the best season of his seven-year career -- hitting .335 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.
