    Roy Halladay vs Joey Votto

The decisions continue to get tougher as we put an ace pitcher (Roy Halladay) up against an elite slugger (Joey Votto).

The Phillies and Reds are among the best teams in the National League, but which superstar would you prefer to build your own franchise around?

Which player would you rather build around if you were starting a team? Votto or Halladay?

Personally, I would rather have Roy Halladay because I think a #1 ACE is more important than 1B. Halladay will go out every 5th day and provide you a very good if not great start. Heck, look at what he has done the past 4-5 years and tell me why you wouldnt want him as your #1 pitcher. Votto is a great player, but I feel that SP is more important.

What are your thoughts? Votto or Halladay?

I would rather build around Votto. However, I would much rather build around an elite pitcher, but if I'm building a team, Halladay is too old for me.

Exactly. A 34 year old pitcher isn't really ideal to start building around. Throw a young ace's name out there, say Lincecum, King Felix, Johnson, etc, then my answer would be different.

I have to agree with the first two here. I originally thought I'd take a pitcher, but he is just too old to start a team around. Have to go with Votto here.

I'll agree that I'd build around Votto because of Halladay's age. If you said Felix Hernandez, then there's no doubt that I'd go with Hernandez simply because an ace pitcher is more important than a great first baseman. You can always fill that first place bat with a good one, and have good defense as well, but the ace pitcher is hard to come by.

Joey Votto...for many of the age reasons already noted.-BH

I'm going to Halladay, if you got offered a trade? The other teams would overpay, then you got younger people to build around. So, I think just play him out.

Its really hard to compare position players to pitchers. Like apples and oranges. Both of these guys are premium players, and neither is going anywhere anytime soon.
