Tampa Bay Rays Opening Day Roster for Elliot Johnson

Second baseman Elliot Johnson has made the Opening Day roster. It will be his second chance on a stay in the Majors. In 2008 he also made the roster but lasted only seven games. This move will give the Rays a versatile utility man, who can also play the outfield. Johnson has hit .303 during ST so far.

I wonder what this will do with Reid Brignac.

Well let's hope Johnson makes more of his chance this time around. Not everyone gets a shot for a second cup of coffee!

Pretty sure that is the guy that bomb dived Francisco Cervelli breaking his wrist in a ST a couple of years ago.

Still have a picture of it on file and still ticked off about it. No call for some gung ho guy trying to make the roster taking a chance of ending another players career.

Look at the picture, Johnson is going straight for the ball in the glove with an all out dive at a stationary catcher!

Well hopefully he's able to do well, the Rays are in need of a few X factors after Crawford, Pena, and Garza leaving.

Usually if they do, it's decaffeinated. :P

I think 7 games was soon, but hopefully he produces better than he did in his first stint. Congrats for making the OD roster!

With many uncertain factors in the bullpen, the starting rotation needs to step up and eat a lot of innings.

It seems that the Rays' opening day roster is set now.

    Starting pitchers:
    David Price
    James Shields
    Wade Davis
    Jeff Niemann
    Jeremy Hellickson

    Relief:
    Cesar Cabral
    Kyle Farnsworth
    J.P. Howell
    Jake McGee
    Joel Peralta
    Cesar Ramos
    Adam Russell
    Andy Sonnanstine

    Catchers:
    John Jaso
    Kelly Shoppach

    IF:
    Reid Brignac
    Dan Johnson
    Elliot Johnson
    Evan Longoria
    Sean Rodriguez

    OF:
    Johnny Damon
    Sam Fuld
    B.J. Upton
    Ben Zobrist

    DH:
    Matt Joyce
    Manny Ramirez

To be honest I am quite surprised that Desmond Jennings isn't on the OD roster. But I guess he will called up as a replacement for an injured player or if his AAA numbers are pretty good.

According to the latest info, one name needs to be scratched from the roster above: Cesar Cabral.
