In a blog, I read about Kei Igawa, who is in the final year of a five year 20MM contract. To be honest I totally forgot about him. He must be the most expensive Minor Leaguer around :yup:

When you look at his numbers over the last couple of years on AAA level, do you think he deserves one more shot for a spot in the rotation or bullpen? Or do you think he is done and should return to Japan?

According to Joe Torre, Igawa never got a fair chance. To some extend Torre was responsible for that, but I think he is right about this. We are already thin in starting pitchers, so I think it wouldn't hurt if he would be a part of the 25 man roster, eventually as a long reliever in the first place and then making some pick starts.

Thoughts?

I thought he made his way back to Japan.... If he's healthy, I don't see what would be in the way of making a couple spot starts next season. One thing though.... I see his innings in 2010 went down roughly by half. Why is that?

Hard to tell with those numbers, and he has just mediocre WHIP and ERA for being in AAA. Plus, the pressure is New York is pretty big for a guy from Japan to handle. I guess they could have tried him as a middle reliever but I think it is best to leave him alone.

I think Kei Igawa was a Cashman mistake that never should have happened. Maybe part of the mistake was timing, maybe Joe Torre was right, whatever the reason...it WAS A MISTAKE!

Kei's numbers to me are not impressive enough to warrant a shot again with the Yanks...frankly we don't need him in the bullpen and he is NOT starter material.

Do you have any clue why the Yankees still have him on their AAA squad? Like I said, he must be one of the most expensive players in the International League. Wouldn't it be cheaper to release him?
