I thought it might be nice to sum up all changes in Minor League Baseball for the 2011 season. Not only affiliation changes, but also name changes, logo changes, etc.

Affiliation changes: Dodgers sign PDC with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Angels sign PDC with Inland Empire Sixtysixers.

The Toronto Blue Jays changed low A afflilations. They ended the ten year PDC with the Auburn Double Days and will head to Bluefield in the Appalachian League.

The Washington Nationals will take Toronto's spot in Auburn, leaving the Vermont Lake Monsters.

The Lake Monsters will be the low A afflilation for the Oakland A's.

The Oakland A's and Kansas City Royals traded A affiliations.
The A's will leave the Kane County Cougars and head to Burlington to join the Bees.
The Royals will move the opposite way.

Name changes: Omaha Royals change their name into Omaha Storm Chasers.
This is the new logo:

The West Tenn DiamondJaxx changed their name into Jackson Generals, referring to the old days team name.

Logo changes: New Hampshire FisherCats change colours: Their new logo will be this

The Wisconsin Timbler Rattlers changed their logo as well, allthough it wasn't a major change:

The Fort Myers Miracle changed their logo too:

The Altoona Curve changed logos as well:

And so do the Kinston Indians:
New:

Old:

The irony here is that the Kinston Indians changed their logo for the 2011 season but they will be moved to Zebulon NC to become the Carolina Mudcats.

The Kannapolis Intimidators added a new alternate logo to their arsenal:

This is old news, but I think it is a major change in the Minor League landscape.

The Portland Beavers are no more.

Two years ago there were plans to build a new stadium in the outskirts of Portland, but in the end the inhabitants of Portland opposed because a sportsarena had to be demolished. Since the owner of the Beavers is also owner of Portland's MLS team and he wanted PGE park to be soccer only, there was no room for the Beavers in Portland anymore. Now the Padres are trying to buy the team to house it in Escondido, a suburb of San Diego. Until that day, the Beavers or whatever they will be called will play in Tucson.

Sad, very sad.

Talking about minor league logo changes... Here is an article on MiLB.com about a company that designs those logos.

Very interesting.

Can' stand the Storm Chasers logo...too....superheroish for my liking. The Tourists....just dumb...sounds like the team will just be visiting.

The rest aren't half bad.

Regarding the Stormchasers logo; I think it is a major improvement over the old Omaha Royals logo. Especially their cap was dull as dull can be.

I don't see why the tourists changed their logo. It is dumb indeed. Their old logo was good. But hey they try everything to get new resources. Take the FisherCats logo for instance. What was wrong with the green logo? They will adapt the colour of their caps to that logo too. Very original. Almost every club is playing in blue...

I overlooked one change.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, last year the A advanced affiliate of the Braves , has become the A advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
The Braves are moving their A team to the Lynchburg Hillcats.

Not that I care all that much, but virtually all of the new logos seem to be cut from the same mold -- a graphically bold symbol dissected by the team name in big curvy letters. They all must have hired the same graphic designer.

You are right. I added this link earlier in this thread: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20101216&content_id=16335484&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp

This design company makes logos for many MiLB teams.

Why does baseball insist on getting rid of mascots in team logos? Who wants to just look at a bunch of boring text...

The new Indians logo to one that was really cool and made it pretty boring. Same with the Tourists and the Captains.

I don't think that the Indians logo is necessarily more boring than the old one. But I simply don't see why the Tourists had to change their logo.
Sure new revenue, but it surely is no improvement over the old one.

And thus, the Rangers are moving to Round Rock. Funny how one team Ryan pitched for succeeds the other team he pitched for in Round Rock.

For the 2012 season, the High Desert Mavericks adopted two alternate logos

http://www.milb.com/images/2012/03/12/Nl7arGDM.jpg

"After 21 seasons in the Victor Valley, we felt it was a great time to introduce new logos which reflected both the Mavericks team identity and our strong connections to the High Desert community" said General Manager Eric Jensen. "Our new HD logo allows the whole High Desert to feel represented when they're wearing Mavericks apparel and incorporates the unique physical attributes of this region."

"Likewise, the new cowboy logo represents the rugged resilience of those who reside in the desert, while providing a historical tie to the Maverick name."

I hope this is a sign that the Mavs will stay in the High Desert Area after the 2012 season.
