OPS+ & ERA+ are ballpark adjusted.

Looking at the combined, the Nationals and Rangers are sick at this early point of the season and have the W-L record to prove it. The Rays are lucky to be 5-5 with their awful combined pts. Dodgers also have a little luck going to be 9-1, even though they have a good combined 236 pts. Phillies will be improving on that 5-5 record if they maintain a combined 233.

This is some neat analysis. There's definitely some correlation between record and combined OPS+ and ERA+. How much correlation is yet to be determined, but I anticipate the teams that are going against the trend will eventually either catch up to these stats, or have the stats catch up to them. I'm surprised at how the Rangers are completely dominating everyone else in the AL. We'll see if the Nats and Mets can keep up their own prowess in the NL.

These are some good inside stats that you brought up.

Interesting if not depressing early look at this season.

Interesting if not depressing early look at this season.

Look at the bright side of things Dabs, the Cubs can only go one way in the combined.

This is very interesting, especially later in the season.

I think the ERA+ will get better. Maholm won't get rocked every time he is out there or he is going to get replaced by Wood, Wells or Coleman. The OPS+ on the otherhand isn't likely to go up unless Jackson and Rizzo are good as soon as they are called up.

One thing though about Maholm he played in a BIG park in PIT. Now going to smaller park can hurt him. No more 380 FT flyouts. They HR

The Rangers are good, no doubt about it.

They are spanking the Red Sox (and John Lester) as we speak.

I'm not so sure about the Nats.

It's a simple formula, but it does look fairly effective. Now, if only we could tweak the weighting (not 50-50) and maybe add in a few stats (i.e. Runs/Game) and we'll have an awesome team formula.

I love stats :slaphappy:

If you don't want him, send him back to Pittsburgh! We'll take him.

And this is some pretty cool stuff. But wow, the Pirates' OPS is horrendus.

Runs/game is right there in the league stats. It was more or less to show how the combined relates to a teams record. Pretty simple really, good hitting and good pitching= good record.
