So Collmenter pitched 3 innings and gave up 5 ER today to follow up a horrid spring.
1) Is he proving the critics who said he didn't have the stuff to start right, or will he get out of the "slump" he is in.
2)How long of a leash will he have and who will replace him?
3) What will happen to him? (If he gets replaced I think he will be given a spot in the pen as a long reliever.)

Perhaps teams is adjusting to that weird over the top delivery he has. Sorta freaked me watching him at Coors Field last year. After last year I believe the D Backs will give him a pretty long leash.

After the way he pitched last season I think he has earned the right for a few more starts. He should be alright. Somewhere between 2011 and league average I would guess, which even if he falls closer to league average its still very valuable.

Have you watched Scott Patterson pitch? When I first saw him at Tacoma I thought maybe something was wrong. Very odd delivery lol

Like I said in another thread, Ben, Collmenter still has to develop at the MLB level. I think it is safe to say he should have some very nice starts and plenty of bad ones as he does this in 2012.
I really like that Gibby is firm on letting him grow in that #3 spot. When you have good young arms... you let them pitch! Still, with a lot of the promising young arms that Arizona has, they need to take their lumps as they learn.
I do think it is worth watching to see if he becomes more than a two pitch guy. Most good starters need 3 or 4 pitches with 2 or 3 "plus" pitches. Not sure if Colementer is that guy?

Gibby said on Friday that Collmenter may be moved to the bullpen with a prospect moving up to take his spot in the rotation. Both Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs could fill his slot this Monday.

Patrick Corbin is replacing Collmenter in his spot in the rotation on Monday. Josh will be demoted to the bullpen.

It appears Corbin got the W tonight. 9-5 victory.

Yep, 5.2 innings with 3 ER. Not great, but respectable for a MLB deput.

I guess they are holding Bauer and Skaggs back to prevent their arb clock from starting? Or to limit innings pitched?

Last night, vs the Marlins, he warmed up in the pen, but in the end he didn't make an appearance.
Apparently they don't trust him....

Bauer didn't line up with Collmenters spot in the rotation so he wasn't an option, and he has been struggling with his command in the minors. As for Skaggs maybe they wanted to keep him back. Corbin performed very well in spring training and in Mobile, so he definitely earned the spot.

Maybe, he has been pounded as a starter, but he should be an ok long reliever. They're going to have to use him sometime and if he does good they'll use him more.

Do you guys think that teams may have adjusted some to his smoke and mirror delivery? Or is it just control problems? He impressed me at Coors Field last year.

It's possibly both. He has lost his control and has been leaving the ball up in the zone. That combined with the possibility that batters aren't being fooled anymore has him in the straits.
