The Washington Nationals are trying to keep Phillies fans out of the park by offering tickets for the first series between the two teams to season ticket holders and people who live in the DC area (Virgina, Maryland and DC). Apparently they don't like it that Phillies fans are taking over the ballpark.
Mmmmm. Could it be that DC just lacks real baseball fans? The two Senators franchises didn't leave for nothing.

Could be. Its got to be tough to open against one of the best teams in baseball that is close enough for its fans to easily make that trip. I think right now only the Red Sox or Yankees could overcome that issue, IMO.

Easy solution.
A surcharge for any Philiies fans.

they have this problem every year. The proximity of the cities doesn't help any, nor does the opposing fortunes of the two clubs. Until the Phillies get knocked off their throne a bit, there will always be a good following of theirs making the trip to DC.

You hit the nail right on the head. Besides that: as long as the Nationals don't field a winning team, fans won't show up in big enough numbers to outnumber the Philly fans.

I understand why it would be sort of embarrassing for the opposing team to have more fans fill the park than the home team, but if tickets are being sold who cares? It could be worse. They could have an empty stadium...

Exactly my thoughts. As long as you sell tickets you get money in your pocket.
