Three-time All-Star Carlos Guillen announced his retirement from baseball on Tuesday, deciding to hang it up after a brief shot in camp with the Mariners on a Minor League contract this spring.

I didn't think Guillen would win a starting job this year but I was excited that he was brought in this spring. Thought he could be a very good bat off the bench and backup at 3B/1B. Wish him the best after baseball.

So his family wanted him to keep going but he said no. Wow. Usually the family would seem to be the ones telling you it's time.

Well he can be proud of his career and also proud that he hung it up on his own terms.

He had some good years at short with the Tigers. Interestingly, his offensive decline occurred at just about the same time as when he moved out of that position. Best of luck in retirement.

I was surprised by that as well. Glad he was able to leave the game on his own terms.

I was always a Carlso Guillen fan. Like OG said, glad he left the game on his own terms.
