BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Trevor Gooby, the Pittsburgh Pirates' director of Florida operations, delivered a baby when a fan went into labor during an event Tuesday night at McKechnie Field.

"We were waiting for the ambulance and she kept saying, 'This baby's coming,'" Gooby said. "She gave one push, the baby came out and I caught it. I did my best (outfielder Andrew) McCutchen impersonation."

The baby, a boy who was born five weeks early, will be named McKechnie.

"He'll get a free, lifetime membership in our kids club," Gooby said with a grin.

The Pirates will open the home exhibition schedule on Sunday at McKechnie, vs. the Blue Jays.

This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'born to play ball'. The mother will have a great story to tell for years' to come.

McKechnie is okay, but I think she should have named the boy Gooby!
