A downtown St. Louis sportsbar, named after Albert Pujols (Pujols 5), has changed its name into Hall of Fame Sports Bar and Grill. Some of the Pujols memorabilia will stay in the restaurant, but the majority of it will be replaced by artifacts from the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.

Pujols was paid for marketing appearances and for the fact that he allowed his name to be used.

The statue that is outside the bar was guarded 24/7 when Pujols signed with the Angels. It is not clear what will happen with it.

You gotta' hand it to the Cardinals fans. Contrary to what this article seems to be suggesting, I think they've handled the situation pretty well. I often think back to when LeBron James signed with the Miami Heat and caused an uproar in Cleveland. Burning jerseys, rioting, etc...it wasn't out of the ordinary.

As much as I hate to admit this (as a Brewers fans), the Cardinals have some of the best fans in baseball. The vast majority thanked Pujols for his services, and wished him luck in Los Angeles. That's more than I can say for myself. I don't respect the guy, but I still admire the behavior of the St. Louis faithful.

Well put, Mr. Baseball. St. Louis is a great baseball town, and I think the change of name for the venue is appropriate, not sour grapes.

I agree. Who wants a bar that reminds you of a player with another team. No it makes sense to change it.

Cardinals and the Cavs were in 2 different situations. Lebron went on TV and dissed the Cavs to go to the Heat and took away any chance the Cavs had at winning a championship. Pujols leaving still allows the Cards to be contenders, not to mention the fact they are still coming off a WS win.

Overall though I am impressed with how the Cards fans have handled it thus far as well. I don't think the sports bar changing their name was sour grapes as much as it was they didn't want the bar to be named after an opposing player.
