MLB Teams are expected to offer Bud Selig a two-year extension that could pay $25 million annually.

Selig's extension, according to a baseball official with knowledge of the contract but not authorized to discuss it because it has not been finalized, will be approved at this week's owners' meetings in Arizona.

Wonder what that does to his vow to retire at the end of 2012?

I can't wait until he is gone.

I agree. We need a commish who was NOT a former owner!

The white collar Brett Favre. Sheesh! Think his current pay is 17mil a year, plus what he gets out of other pockets.

There has been a great deal of criticism of this commissioner and of the office itself over the years. What can you really expect of this position and the person in it if he or she is going to report solely to the owners of the teams. You would have to expect the owners wanting to get some leverage out of this position given they have to fight with the strongest players union in existence.

The mantra: in the best interest of baseball, may be secondary.

Since the owners hire and fire the commissioner, they should be looking for one that is a little cheaper then 20mil a year.

True and true, unfortunately the rest of the owners love what Selig has done for their bottom line. Bud operates under the delusion that he is working towards the best interests of the game; when in reality it's the owners best interests he's looking out for. That's why it wouldn't surprise me if one of their own were to take over, if Bud ever steps down.
