Pete Incaviglia made his major league debut for the Texas Rangers on April 8, 1986, without having spent any time in the minor leagues. He played 12 seasons in the majors, including five seasons with the Texas Rangers, where he hit 124 home runs. Incaviglia also spent seasons in Detroit, Houston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and the New York Yankees. He hit a total of 206 home runs in his 12-year career and played in the 1993 World Series as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.
As a result of the Expos trading Incaviglia immediately after signing him, Major League Baseball instituted a rule whereby a team cannot trade a drafted player until he has been under contract to the club for at least one year. This is now known as the Pete Incaviglia Rule.
After his playing career, Incaviglia was the hitting coach for the Erie Seawolves, the Detroit Tigers' AA affiliate in the Eastern League, for the three seasons, but was dismissed at the end of the 2006 season.
