The Cubs and the Red Sox didn't close the gap of what Epstein is worth in players. Epstein claims that he isn't worth that much, but of course his counterpart Ben Cherington claims the opposite.
Maybe I am the only one, but I think it is a weird situation to involve players in a move of a GM.
