This is the 6th in a daily series of short looks at each team in MLB. The opinions expressed are my own..

The official Chicago Cubs website says: It's a Way of Life!

Unfortunately the way of life in Chicago the last 2 seasons is one of loss.

This doesn't mean that Chicago is without hope but after finishing the season 71-91, there is a vast room for improvement. Their record put them in 5th place in the NL Central.

The Good:

Starlin Castro - He became the youngest player to lead the National League in hits, with 207.
Darwin Barney won the second-base job and won NL Rookie of the Month in April.
Aramis Ramirez, who hit .306 with 26 homers and 93 RBIS this season
Sean Marshall thrived in the setup role.

The Bad:

Injuries, esp to the starting rotation.
The Carlos Zambrano drama.
Carlos Marmol reached double digits in blown saves, and ranked among the Major League leaders in that category, as well as worst save percentage.
They were last in the National League in ERA and committed the most errors.

The Future:

The Cubs are in need of a new GM.
The Cubs will soon break ground on new spring training facilities in Mesa, Arizona and facilities in the Dominican Republic as well.
The Cubs need to focus on rebuilding the starting rotation this offseason.
Tom Ricketts said: “We look at everything from a long-term perspective. We’ll make the right long-term decisions. Like we’ve always said, it’s about player development.”

If it is about player development, I wonder why they traded Chris Archer away to the Rays in exchange for Matt Garza.
I think they need to resign Aramis Ramirez for the 2012 season (and maybe longer). IF the Cubs can sign Albert Pujols (I don't think it will happen, but there are rumours), he and Ramirez can be a nice 1-2 punch in the lineup.

Good question but that was the statement Ricketts made.

Uh, for the Cubs the bad IS the future usually.

With Epstein on the way things are looking good, except the Red Sox want Jackson and/or McNutt in return. I applaud the fact that Ricketts was pushing for straight cash to get Epstein

I say Cubs are getting in good shape for the future. They just need to get rid of Soriano and we're ready to compete.
