I guess ESPN and other media sources have officially woken up to the absolutely insane year that Matt Kemp is having. Heaven forbid they actually look at decent stats like WAR to back it up.

Anyways, i guess with him only being .003 behind Braun for the batting title, tied with Pujols at 37 HR's and leading in RBI already, we need to be thinking that it is very possible for him to win the triple crown. Do you think he does it?

and my response is no. At this point with only 6 more games left, it could go either way. All it takes is a Braun slump or a Kemp hot streak to put him over the top there. I also wonder how Pujols feels about this. If he is aware of it, wouldnt he want to be the one that does this for the first time in decades??? So maybe he jacks a few to put some distance between him and Kemp. I just dont see it happening simply because i want it to happen so badly, and we havent seen someone do it in so long.

Kemp's BABIP is a ripe .384...and i know that it is probably inflated by his speed, but still, that is a high number. Maybe there is a tiny bit of regression to the norm for him these last 5 games.

In any case, i wish him the best of luck, and i will be cheering him on. What say you?

I think the amount of variables in play here would argue against Kemp winning the Triple Crown. I would love to be wrong.

that's exactly how i feel about it. I wonder if Yastrzemski ran away with it back in 1967, or if it was as close as it might be this year

Yas had a .326 BA and the next closest was Frank Robinson with .311
Yas had 121 RBI and Harmon Killebrew had 113.
The close one was HR as Yas and Killebrew tied at 44.

You can't get any closer than the HR race!

I say, whatever happens, he deserves NL MVP. Will likely lose out to Braun for obvious reasons, but relative to his team's needs and what he meant to that team, Kemp should win it. But that's probably a discussion for another thread.

A lot has to go right for him to win the Triple Crown - it'd be thrilling to see him do it, and it would be the second good thing to happen to the Dodgers (the first being Kershaw's 20th win) in an otherwise miserable summer.

That would be something. He'd be the first since Yazstremski.
But I don't think he will make it. Only because of his BA. His average is .325 and Braun's is .331. And near the end of the season a BA never jumps that fast. This would mean that Braun must slump in the last four games and that Kemp must get a hit out of every at bat. Forget it, that won't happen.

I sure hope not! The Brewers have never had a batting-champion, I'd love too see Braun be the first!

Wow, that is a bit surprising with having all-time greats like Paul Molitor and Robin Yount playing for them...

I am thinking Kemp is going to fall just a bit short...And Mex, i agree with you 100% Kemp should run away with MVP voting IMO....it is easy to have the big numbers Braun has when he has Fielder hitting behind him and Weeks hitting ahead of him....Who does Kemp have protecting him??? Jay Gibbons? James Loney? hahaha

The fact that he almost did it on a BAD team makes him the even more obvious choice for me...what would the dodgers have been without him???? ANSWER: a 90 loss team
