Now at 25 games and counting!

The hit gave Uggla sole possession of the fourth-longest streak in Atlanta history, passing Gary Sheffield, who hit safely in 24 consecutive games in 2003.

Uggla is now behind only Rico Carty (31 games in 1970), Rowland Office (29 in '76) and Marquis Grissom (28 in '96). But he has rookie first baseman Freddie Freeman chasing him with an 18-game hitting streak of his own.

Dan Uggla notched a 2-run single in the eighth inning last night to move his hit streak to 26!

Greetings ....

Now at 27 games. He hit his 24th homer of the year in the Braves' 11-7 loss to the Mets (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=310806121) on Saturday night.

I don't really understand why people get excited about already. He is still 29 games away from DiMaggio's record. If he reaches 50 I'll start to get excited.

Well I am just noting the event....something o talk about. Uggla seems fairly calm and not to worked up himself but this is more noteworthy because he only needs 5 more to break the Braves record for hit streaks.

Sorry. It wasn't meant as a nasty remark.

He's gonna catch DiMaggio...

He's gonna catch DiMaggio...

He already has, passing Dom DiMaggio, who had a 27-game hit streak in 1951.

Yesterday:

Uggla extended the streak Sunday with an eighth-inning single vs. Mets reliever Bobby Parnell in a 6-5 win. It was the 20th time during the streak Uggla has had only one hit and the fourth time he has done it in his last plate appearance.

Today:

Uggla extended his hitting streak to 29 games with an infield single in the fifth inning of the Braves game in Florida.
Uggla hit a dribbler off of Marlins starter Brad Hand to Marlins shortstop Emilo Bonifacio and beat it out. It was his fourth infield single of the team's current road trip.

his previous high was like 12 or 13....at least Ethier is known as a good contact hitter...Uggla's game doesnt lend itself to hitting streaks very well. but it is fun to watch

Dan Uggla of the Atlanta Braves extended his hitting streak to 30 games with a single in the fifth inning against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night.

Uggla’s streak ties Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the longest of the season and is the third-longest in franchise history.

I noticed, however, that his BA is in the low .200 region. Has he had that rough a year up until now?

RickD

He has had a horrible year going into this streak. His BA was like 117 or something....

WingsOfSteel

Lowest he was ever hitting was .174.

Also, he has 12 homers in a 31-game streak. The only other guy with that many in a 30+ Gamer: Joe DiMaggio.

Thanks. I knew it was low...just not sure exactly where.

31 hits....one more and he sets the Club record at least.

Playing at home for the first time since July 31, Uggla drilled the second pitch he saw from Carlos Zambrano over the center-field wall on Friday night to set an Atlanta-record 32-game hitting streak -- the longest in the Majors this season.

I'm definitely rooting for him. It's crazy to look back and realize this streak started way back on July 5th. I'd love to see him break the record, although doing so would be a ridiculous feat. The only record that I think is more unbreakable is Cal Ripkens streak of games played.

It's been a mix of skill and luck for Uggla. As long as the luck continues he's got a shot. I'd be surprised if he gets to 40 game though let alone break DiMaggio's record.
And while Cal's record will be tough to see broken, I'd wager that Cy Youngs wins record will stand long after Cal's consecutive games record is broken.

Uggla has extended his hitting streak to 33 games with a first-inning single off Chicago's Randy Wells. (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/lists/Baseball-milestones-that-will-not-be-matched)

Tommy Holmes holds the franchise record with 37 as a member of the Boston Braves in 1945.

Uggla entered Saturday night's game batting .370 (47 for 127) with 14 homers and 31 RBIs during the streak.

So the streak continues. I'm not even all that confident that he'll hit 40, but anything can happen!

RickD
08-13-2011, 10:19 PM
Well it is entertaining in the least.

Imagine how purists would feel if a guy batting .179 comes in and breaks the great DiMaggio's record!

And now it is over:

It took a diving catch worthy of highlight treatment under any circumstances, but Dan Uggla's hitting streak finally ended at 33 games.

Cubs rookie second baseman Darwin Barney raced into shallow right field in the fifth inning of a 6-5 Braves loss on Sunday and made a dive to rob Uggla of a bloop hit at Turner Field.

Uggla finished 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly as he was stopped four games short of the Braves' franchise record of 37 set by Tommy Holmes of the Boston Braves in 1945. The Atlanta record, which Uggla now owns, was 31 games, established by Rico Carty in 1970.

Here is the run down of Dan Uggla's place in MLB History:
