Well injuries is what we do best unfortunately, especially 2009 which was the worst I have ever known, most days that season we had 6-7 bench players out there. So far this year, from what I know -

Daniel Murphy 1B Probable for the start of spring training
Jason Bay LF Probable for the start of spring training
Francisco Rodriguez RP Probable for the start of spring training
John Maine SP Questionable for the start of spring training
Jenrry Mejia RP Probable for the start of spring training

Then of course the big one is Johan Santana, Santana will throw sometime in January after his surgery to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder, they will then set a target date for him, but he probably won't be back much before the AS break. This is the sort of risk you run when you pay a guy $20 million a year, and a perfect example of why those sorts of insane contracts are so stupid and potentially wasteful, a guy is worth $20 million if he can guarantee you 20 wins each year and an ERA under 3.00, but when he's sitting on his backside for months on end with his arm in a sling, you just look idiotic.

Injured Mets ace Johan Santana has been cleared to start a program that could have him throwing before the start of spring training.

Latest word is that Johan Santana may be back by June!

Carlos Beltran still having problems with his surgically repaired right knee:
http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2011/03/mets_right_fielder_carlos_belt.html

Assuming he gets healthy, Beltran has ceded CF to the emerging Angel Pagan, and will start the season playing RF-- still no easy task at spacious Citifield.

He's old, but I can still see him producing. The Mets are in a heap of financial trouble and their team really isn't that great this year, Beltran can at least add something to that lineup.

Jason Bay strained a muscle near his rib cage and might open the season on DL!

Mets reliever Bobby Parnell has a circulatory problem in the middle finger of his pitching hand and will have further tests to determine if a blood clot is causing the numbness.

The hard throwing right-hander is likely headed for the 15-day disabled list Thursday

It's been a very disappointing season for Wright, who's hitting .226 and has looked utterly lost at the plate. This injury may explain a lot. I hope he can get healthy and return to the cornerstone player he used to be, and likely the best 3B in Mets history, assuming the Wright of 2006-08 is not gone forever.

New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis will be placed back in a boot for three weeks after an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Tuesday revealed his injured left ankle is not healing.

It's the Mets...it would probably be easier to have a thread about the players who AREN'T injured.

Mets first baseman Ike Davis might need season-ending ankle surgery if his bone bruise has not healed sufficiently in three weeks for him to resume baseball activities.

General manager Sandy Alderson said that Davis has not improved from the injury that has sidelined him since May 11. An MRI taken Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York also showed cartilage damage in the left ankle.

Jose Reyes was put on the 15-day DL today with that strained hamstring, retroactive to July 3. Typical Mets - it went from day-to-day to DL, as per usual. When I spoke to Reyes in the clubhouse on Monday, he was looking forward to playing in the All-Star Game and maybe even getting back into the lineup in L.A. He will miss the ASG, as the Mets decided to take utomost precaution not to rush Reyes back into the lineup prematurely.

The Mets have canceled Johan Santana's rehab start this week, instead flying their injured pitcher to New York for testing on what Alderson called "lingering discomfort" in his left shoulder.

It is too bad but at this stage they need to be cautious.

Ike Davis is now out until Sept 1. Let's just call his season a scrub and look to 2012 shall we?

Can we do the same for the Mets season?

More Mets misery: 1B Daniel Murphy, already subbing for the injured Ike Davis, suffered a season-ending torn MCL today while playing 2B against the Braves. And Jose Reyes left the game in the 2nd inning with a strained left hamstring.

Jose Reyes looks to be activated off the DL on Monday (just in time to help my fantasy team in the playoffs :))

Mets placed OF Andres Torres on the 15-day disabled list with left calf strain.

Torres aggravated his left calf injury during Thursday's opener and will head down to Port St. Lucie on Friday to begin the rehab process. It's not clear how long he'll be out, but we're guessing it will probably be longer than the minimum 15 days. Scott Hairston figures to see the bulk of the playing time in center field during his absence, though Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who takes Torres' spot on the roster, could also get a shot.

Jason Bay and Mike Pelfrey are put on the DL. Bay has a broken rib and Pelfrey has elbow inflammation. Zach Lutz will be called up to take Bay's place while Robert Carson will be called up for three days to replace Pelfrey before he will be sent back down to the minors so the Mets can call up a starting pitcher for Friday.

Jason Bay is back on the DL for seven days due to a concussion!

Mex86

Seven days doesn't sound like much for a concussion, especially after he already had one bad one. He got this one running into the LF wall at Citifield. If they hadn't moved the fences in this year - maybe he doesn't get this one. :)

Pitcher Dillon Gee has undergone surgery to remove a blood clot from an artery in his throwing shoulder.

The team said Tuesday no timetable has been set for the right-hander's return, but he will miss his next start and probably will be put on the disabled list.

Tim Byrdak, who was placed on the DL on August 2 with a sore shoulder, has a tear in his shoulder and may need to go under the knife, which would jeopardize his 2013 season.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis, currently in AAA, has a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot and may also need surgery.

The Mets have shut Johan Santana down for the rest of the season.

The two-time Cy Young Award winner is going on the disabled list. His back stiffened during a bullpen session earlier this week, and an MRI revealed damage.

The team tweeted:

OFFICIAL: @Mets place @JohanSantana on DL with lower back inflammation. He is not expected to pitch the rest of the season.

An MRI on Mets pitcher Johan Santana's surgically repaired left shoulder capsule showed a re-tear, general manager Sandy Alderson announced Thursday.
Santana flew to New York to receive the MRI and meet with team doctor David Altchek. By request of Santana's agent, Altchek consulted with baseball-injury experts James Andrews and Lewis Yocum, who confirmed the diagnosis. Alderson called surgery "a strong possibility" for the left-hander.

This makes me wonder if he is ever really going to pitch again. I hope the Mets paid insurance on that contract!!!

This could be the end of the line for Johan. He's been a very good pitcher, but it's going to be very difficult to come back from this surgery again.

I think he's done. We are looking at a man who played his last professional game.

I know the GM came out and said that No-No was not the reason behind this, but 134 pitches is a lot and it's really taxing. I may be alone but it seems like it wasn't worth it in the end.

Agreed. It's a shame, Johan in his prime was fun to watch. Even if a miracle happened and he is able to come back, he'll never be more than a number four or five starter again

A sad ending to an excellent -- if short -- career.

And just another reason why owners are crazy to sign pitchers to lengthy guaranteed contracts.

I don't think the 134-pitch no-hitter had anything to do with this injury. Johan is well enough conditioned to throw that many pitches without hurting himself.

I saw Johan pitch in his prime and he was just plain nasty. His fastball had a lot of late movement on it and he had one of the best change-ups in the business. His slider was nearly unhittable. Lots of swings and misses at those pitches.
Here's hoping that he can get back on the mound, but it is looking less likely all the time.

It's safe to say that if Santana does pitch again, it won't be in a Mets uniform. Sad, because he was a great competitor who did give the Mets one great and one very good year. I don't think the no-hitter is to blame, and for those who think pitching the first no-no in the 51-year history of the franchise wasn't worth it, well... think again. I don't think Santana would take it back. One 134-pitch start should not be enough to damage your career. Back in the day, pitchers routinely threw that many - and went every fourth day. Pitching is not a natural motion for anyone, and not all shoulders are built to withstand 200 innings+ a year.

It's really not a big deal for the Mets, because they (a) were prepared to start the season without him, and (b) weren't going to be anything but a .500 team even if he won 15-20 games. The Mets are starting with over a new core of youngsters, with some veterans sprinkled in. It's a low-key year with few expectations.

Sadly, I think you're right, Mex86. I had the pleasure of seeing Johan pitch in the early part of his career. His stuff was as good as any I'd ever seen. He has HOF stuff, but his body isn't cooperating.
