Buster Olney is all over Han-Ram on Twitter today calling him out for not being a good clubhouse guy and saying that he might need a position change.
By the way:a great concern among some rival evaluators is that Hanley is too big now to be effective SS; sentiment is he needs to streamline
In my opinion (and nothing more): right now, Hanley's trade value would be about 50-60 cents on dollar, b/c of perf.,effort ?s.
Marlins in weird place with Hanley. He is best-known player as they move into new park. But within clubhouse, anything other than front man
There is sentiment within FLA organization that Marlins would be better off trading Hanley Ramirez--but also perception that Loria loves him
I take it Buster Olney is not a Hanley Ramirez fan! :)
I wonder what this does for the Jose Reyes market should Hanley Ramirez be traded:dunno:

He's been horrible all year, and I can see where Buster is coming from; I mean I know we shouldn't judge a player on one play where he jogged after a ball, but is he really giving it his all with the way he's been performing? Either that or he is still injured, because he has been terrible all year.

I don't know what all the fuss is about concerning him and the SS position. Everytime I see a Rays game, Hanley Ramirez makes another great defensive play.
As for the clubhouse thing...I wouldn't want him on the Pirates. Put it that way.

Anyone who is loved by Jeffrey Loria deserves to be in a huge slump.
The Red Sox knew what they were dumping when they got rid of the incredibly talented Ramirez.

really? they knew what they were dumping? they would take back that trade 9 times out of 10 i think. Beckett has been good for them, but not as good as Hanley has been for the Marlins. Pitchers like Beckett hit the market every other year, but a SS of Hanley's caliber may come around a couple times a decade

When a team struggles, it's common for people to exaggerate the flaws of its best players. That's especially true when the player is also having a down year.
His flaws are the same as they've always been. He's always rated poorly defensively, and he's had his lapses in hustle; his struggles are likely more to do with his BABIP being unsustainably low than with the same flaws he's always had. When he's hitting as he normally does, though, he's a great player even with his negatives.

Look, I'm a reasonable guy (more or less) except when it comes to anything associated with Jeffrey Loria. I have absolutely no idea if the Red Sox knew the extent of Ramirez's talent -- after all, he had not had but two PA in the bigs when they traded him, and how many guys have really lived up to their potential? -- or if they knew that he was kind of a jerk. I'm guessing they had inklings of both, and rolled the dice. Beckett was a proven pitcher, and (2010 notwithstanding), he's been a plus for the franchise.

Oh they knew he was "kind of a jerk". Arguments with his ML managers and showing up late were a few issues he had. There is no doubt he has a lot of talent but I think Boston is just fine with Josh Beckett.

Great, see a bunch of hiding behind the ol'Twitter cloak stirring up the crap. Just what today's reporters need, another gossip tool.

Hanley has always been this sort of player. Now that the team is struggling and not meeting up to expectations every move he makes is under a bigger microscope by the media. Hopefully Mckeon c get him back on track at least with getting to the clubhouse on time, running out plays, ect.. The position change is something that I really don't understand. Hanley is extremely talented and when he is given his all at SS he is a top notch player. Get your head back in the game Hanley and show us what you really got.

I don't think you can blame the Marlins terrible month for Ramirez's bad year. He's had a crappy year. There would have been (and in fact there were even this year) questions about him when they were in contention not less than three weeks ago.
