On the surface, Howard and Greer look pretty similar, but this is a case where the impact of context is huge. Howard put up numbers in a pitchers' park in an extreme pitchers' era, whereas Greer hit in a hitters' park in an extreme power era. When you look at the two in the context of their eras, Greer was a fine player, whereas Big Frank was one of the most dominant hitters in the game for a time.
