In 1904, Doc White throws his 5th shutout in 18 days.
In 1927, Babe Ruth hits his 60th homer of the year.
In 1945, just back from the service, Hank Greenberg hits a grand slam to clinch the AL pennant for the Tigers.
In 1947, Ralph Branca becomes the youngest pitcher to start a World Series game.
In 1951, the Dodgers and Giants both win to force a three game playoff.
In 1956, Don Newcombe wins his 27th game, the most ever by an African American pitcher.
In 1962, the expansion Mets lose their 120th game, a modern record.
In 1972, Roberto Clemente gets his 3000th hit. What is not known at the time is that it will be his last.
In 1973, the Yankees play their last game at Yankee Stadium before moving to Shea Stadium for 2 years while the Stadium is being renovated.
In 1979, Ed Kranepool, the last original Met, plays his final game.
In 1984, Mike Witt throws a perfect game against the Rangers.
In 1989, NBC broadcasts its last Game of the Week after 43 years.
In 1990, the White Sox play their last game at the old Comiskey Park, at the time the oldest Park in MLB.
In 1992, George Brett gets his 3000th hit.
In 1999, the Giants play their last game at the much maligned Candlestick Park.
In 2007, the Rockies force a one game playoff with the Padres to determine the NL Wildcard.
In 2008, the White Sox clinch their division in a one game playoff with the Twins.
Former Royals bullpen ace Dan Quisenberry dies of brain cancer in 1998.

I had forgotten all about him passing until I read about it in developing this thread. He was one of the best relievers around and a major reason the Royals were good back then.
