So the Brewers were planning a promo where they would hide about 1,400 lawn ornament statues depicting Milwaukee's "Bernie Brewer" mascot./ They were hidden across Wisconsin early Tuesday morning and some of them had tickets, player auto's and other prizes.

What they did not plan on was early morning fan stakeouts and isolated reports of lawn-ornament hoarding.

People complained that fans were staking out workers and snapping up the statues as soon as they were hidden.

Bad taste in my opinion to stake out the employees. Guess they won't try this promo again. Kudos for creativity though even if it did backfire.

I was so mad about this when I found out this one girl took 35 of the gnomes from one area and said she was disappointed she didn't get any of the nice prizes. Well what about all those people who were only able to get one and didn't get any prizes? It's so sad how greedy people get when an organization comes up with a creative idea like this and want to provide some neat giveaways for the fans. It seemed like a scavenger hunt would have been fun, but it was definitely poorly planned.

You're kidding, right? This person did not really go public with her disappointment, did she? If so, all I can say is CLASSLESS.

She was all over Twitter this morning and she posted pictures of a trunk full of Bernie gnomes in her car, she seemed really proud of it. There's also reports of other people trying to sell theirs on ebay for $100 or more. It's pathetic!

One of the reasons why I don't do Twitter or Facebook. Seems to me like a shortcut to making yourself appear more important than you really are..

Not saying we are better, but the earlier debate in the Brennamen thread has made this a topic for me.

DHBG updated me after her postings in this thread and mentioned the highest one being on eBay for $500. Absolutely ridiculous.

Actually a Cub's fan took part in the hoarding as well and apparently is willing to trade for Brewers/Cubs tickets.

Ummm no...the highest bid placed is at 152.00

someone wants 500 as a starting bid for theirs

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253 A1%257C72%253A4726&rt=nc&_nkw=bernie+brewer+gnome&_dmpt=US_Baseball_Fan_Shop&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=16&_sc=1

Only because it's apparently in a box which is a total rip off because the team store is now selling them for $48, and those of course will be sold in a box.

And that means that is the highest one, correct? Yes, that is correct. I didn't say the highest bid, she didn't say the highest bid. We said the highest one on there is for $500, which you just pointed out yourself.

I'll never understand all the hype about lawn-ornaments. They creep me out. Didn't they just make a movie with talking lawn gnomes? Strange country we live in! :P
