This division has been confusing so far. Personally I'm more surprised by who's at the top. The Indians at the top of the division with all of their question marks going into the season is pretty shocking. The Royals being right up there with them and the Twins being at the bottom are both shocking as well though.

It is surprising for sure. I think Mauer being hurt and Morneau up in down isn't helping the Twins case. Justin Masterson is one of the bigger surprises for the Indians. You are talking a guy who went 6-13 last year with an ERA of 4.70 and is now 5-0 with an ERA a little over two. Just crazy.

Baseball has a way of evening out in the end so come September the teams that are usually at the top will be at the top again.

Top of the division is way more surprising for me. The Indians? I mean there's no way you could have predicted that. Yeah you could have maybe seen some beginning of the season slumps for the good teams, but this Cleveland team is short on talent and doesn't have the deepest farm, so they are definitely surprising. The Royals doing decent, that's surprising, but not near as surprising as the Tribe.

I see nothing shocking about the Twins right now. Without Mauer and Nathan, and with Morneau trying to regain his swing, their start seems plausible. I do think they will right the ship, but I'd be surprised if they can get back into serious contention.

As for Cleveland, yes, that one begs explanation. All I can say is good for them.

Anyhow, as I said, I have no way to explain the Indians like I do the Twins.

i am wondering when Adam Dunn is going to wake up. He has had a really tough time adjusting to pitching in the AL

In the long run, there will be no great surprises here. The AL Central will be a race between the Tigers and the White Sox, and with the Tigers being in a financial position to add another quality starter or another bat for the second half run,
they will be the odds-on favorite to come out on top. With all of their bad contracts (Rios, Peavy, etc.) the White Sox won't have much room for maneuverability, and will have to sink or swim with what they have. I've never believed in the Indians, and they are already returning to a place in the standings more appropriate for their level of talent.
