New Mayor in Town
OAKLAND, CA - Well the ownership group of the Oakland Athletics did it again. They have decided to go with inexperience to run their club. We are used to this team trading away young talent for prospects so they are doing something similar with the GM spot. "I wasn't really looking for a job and then they called and offered it to me so I had to say yes" new GM said. "We have some talent here and some people that are replaceable so we will see what happens when the time comes" GM added.
It is going to be an interesting season that is for sure so you may want to tune in and see how this one plays out.

Seattle Mariners (0-0) vs Oakland Athletics (0-0)
April 1-3
Oakland, California
Probable Starters:
Felix Hernandez (0-0, 0.00) vs Trevor Cahill (0-0, 0.00)
Erik Bedard (0-0, 0.00) vs Brett Anderson (0-0, 0.00)
Michael Pineda (0-0, 0.00) vs Dallas Braden (0-0, 0.00)
---------- Post added at 08:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 AM ----------
Game 1: Game didn't go as planned for the A's. Firstly starting pitcher Trevor Cahill left the game in the second inning with an injury and as of right now we are not sure what the extent is. The A's were victimized by the long ball and the Mariners behind Felix Hernandez win the first game 6-2.
Notables:
Seattle: Franklin Gutierrez, 1-4, HR, 3 RBI, R
Oakland: David DeJesus, 3-4, 2 RBI
Game 2 : In over our heads? Perhaps. For the second straight game the A's didn't get the best out of their starter. Todays victim was Brett Anderson. Anderson started the game out ok but was sent packing after two and a third innings after giving up nine runs. Not sure what is going to happen from here on out but that is two poor starts for what is arguably one of the better rotations in baseball. "We are going to ride it out for a bit. It is a learning process" GM said.
Notables:
Seattle: Justin Smoak, 4-5, 4 RBI, 2 2B, 2 R
Oakland: Mark Ellis, 1-3, RBI, 2B
Game 3: Hard to believe after the first two games of the season but the A's came out victorious on the strength of Dallas Braden's arm and Kurt Suzuki's bat. Wasn't too sure what was going to happen since the first two starters got shelled but Braden pitched a very good game to notch his first win and the teams first win of the season.
Notables:
Seattle: Greg Halman, 1-3, HR, 3 RBI, R
Oakland: Kurt Suzuki, 2-4, HR. 4 RBI, 2B, R

Oakland Athletics (1-2) vs Toronto Blue Jays (0-3)
Toronto, Ontario
April 5-7
Probable Starters:
Gio Gonzalez (0-0, 0.00) vs Jesse Litsch (0-0, 0.00)
Josh Outman (0-0, 0.00) vs Carlos Villanueva (0-0, 0.00)
Trevor Cahill (0-1, 9.00) vs Ricky Romero (0-1, 3.60)
Game 1: I think the wind was blowing out of the Rodger's Centre tonight as both clubs combined for 9 homers in the game. When the dust settled the A's came out on top with the score 10-7. Gio Gonzalez was very disappointing but ended up getting the win since the A's bats picked him up. Hope the series doesn't continue that way.
Notables:
Oakland - Josh Willingham, 2-4, HR, 3 RBI, 3B, 2 R
Toronto - Rajai Davis, 3-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI, BB, 2 R
Game 2: The Athletics let this one slip away in extra innings losing to the Jays 3-2. Josh Outman was outstanding in his first start of the year. He had a one-hitter going until it was broken up but a homer by Juan Rivera. Hideki Matsui is starting to pick things up as he hit one into the stands for his second homer of the season. The rubber game of the series will have to wait until tomorrow since I am out of time for today.
Notables:
Oakland: Hideki Matsui, 2-4, HR, RBI, R
Toronto: Juan Rivera, 2-4, HR, RBI, R
Game 3: The A's get beat by the long ball yet again. Trevor Cahill had his second consecutive terrible start. So far in 2011 he is 0-2 with an ERA of 14.21. Not entirely sure what is going on with him but hopefully he will get squared away. Nine homers were hit in this game with the Jays collecting four of them including two by Travis Snider. The A's bullpen wasn't terrible although they allowed a couple more runs to put this one out of reach. The A's lose the final game of the series 10-7.
Notables:
Oakland: Kurt Suzuki, 2-5, HR, RBI, 2 R
Toronto: Travis Snider, 2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R

Oakland Tades Ellis to Royals
Taking advantage of the sometimes unfair trading engine in the video game, A's Gm traded aging veteran Mark Ellis to the Royals in exchange for Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas, and Jeremy Jeffress. This move helps us alot because we were never fans of Ellis and this gives us some good prospects to eventually trade later to keep it like the A's keep it. Current A's centerfielder Coco Crisp was asked what he thought of the team acquiring a centerfielder and he said "It isn't a secret that they don't like me here so I wouldn't be surprised if I am next". A's GM said "We are waiting a response from a team and yes Coco is next. He is so smart".
Stay tuned to see how this all plays out.

Oakland Athletics (2-4) vs Minnesota Twins (4-3)
April 8-10
Target Field --Minnesota
Probable Starters:
Brett Anderson (0-1, 34.71) vs Scott Baker (1-0, 1.50)
Dallas Braden (1-0, 3.86) vs Brian Duensing (1-0, 3.86)
Gio Gonzalez (1-0, 12.60) vs Nick Blackburn (0-1, 81.00)[COLOR="darkred"]
Game 1: The struggles continue in O-Town. Despite a great pitching performance from starter Brett Anderson, the A's bats couldn't come alive and Anderson suffered his second loss of the season by a score of 2-1. Not sure what else needs to happen here but when you rely on the long ball for success you will find yourself in the basement of the division quicker then you think.
Notables:
Oakland: Coco Crisp, 1-4
Minnesota: Justin Morneau, 3-3, RBI, 3 2B, R

Brian Fuentes Sent to Indians
The A's kept busy and sent relief pitcher and former closer Brian Fuentes to Cleveland in exchange for Orlando Cabrera and Chris Perez. "We needed to fill a hole at second and when the Indians called about Fuentes we had to pull the trigger" GM said. He was asked if more moves are to be expected and he said that we can count on it. If the A's pitching doesn't get on track will we see one of their young stars moved? Time will tell.

Crisp is Taking His Talents to Washington After Trade
Again taking huge advantage of a horrible trading engine the A's traded Coco Crisp to the Nationals for Bryce Harper. "I couldn't believe this when I heard the news" all of California said after the trade was made public. "This was another deal that was a no-brainer for us" GM said. Maybe this is the spark they were looking for. We will see.

I'll be updating my franchise soon. You made some very very nice moves. I'm on the cusp of trading Casey Blake who has been terrible for me this season. He is aging, and I think I want to get rid of him. I just don't know what I want to go after. I'd be perfectly fine platooning Aaron Miles and Jamey Carroll who have both been great off the bench. I might try to get a really good relief pitcher since Guerrier has been struggling for me.

I have to say that if the game freezes again I am going to start a new one with a different team.
Depending on how long the system update takes I am going to try and knock a couple of games out while I think about the direction I want to go on in the Dugout Debate.

Dallas Braden once again stopped a losing streak by pitching 7 outstanding innings of three-hit ball. Oakland trailed in this game 1-0 until the 8th inning when a couple of basehits and a couple of stolen bases put them in position to win. The A's turned the ball over to the pen with a 2-1 lead and Chris Perez and Andrew Bailey delivered preserving the win for Braden and the A's. Looking forward to the rubber match of the series.

The series finale didn't go as planned for Gio Gonzalez of the A's. Gio was bad again but this time he lost for his poor effort. The A's made it interesting when they put 6 runs up in an inning, but Rich Harden couldn't keep them in it for long. The A's are now 3-6 and are heading to Chi-town for a series against the White Sox before heading back home.

Well the A's can't seem to get on track. The starting pitching which was supposed to be their strong suit has really let them down so far. Josh Outman started the game and looked like he was in control until the bottom dropped out. The A's were never really in it when they had the lead and couldn't really get back into it after they squandered it. It doesn't look like it is going to be any easier from here on out.
Game 2

Trevor Cahill continued to improve but was let down by closer Andrew Bailey. Despite that the A's were able to take the middle game of the series 5-2 in 13 innings. Bailey entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with a one-run lead but gave up the game tying homer. It wasn't until the 13th that Chris Carter put the game in the rearview mirror with a two-run blast that proved as the gamewinner.
Game 3

If you don't have starting pitching you do not have a chance. Tonight the A's didn't have a chance. Brett Anderson was subpar again and picked up his third loss of the season. Not much offense to talk about because White Sox starter Mark Buehrle hurled a complete game shutout and appeared to have striken out everyone. Hopefully things can pick up.

Matsui Heading to the Capital
Once again it is almost unfair how easy trading is in the game. Having said that the Oakland Athletics have acquired Stephen Strasburg from the Nationals for Hideki Matsui. "We needed a righty in the roatation and who better than the top pitching prospects of all time?" GM said. Gio Gonzalez has been moved to the bullpen for the time being until he works the kinks out. The acquisition of Strasburg leaves the A's pretty heavy in pitching and thin on the bench. I am sure more moves are on the horizon.

If one thing can be learned it is this. If you are a real good pitcher and you are sick of winning come to Oakland. Stephen Strasburg was unbeaten before coming to Oakland in a trade and was just ordinary in his first start in the American League. Three errors behind him was of no help and neither were all of the strikeouts by his fellow A's. Something has to give right?

You start to feel bad for the starting pitching when they do everything they need to do and the bullpen blows it. Todays game it was Chris Perez that let Dallas Braden down by allowing 3 runs in the 8th which was too much for the A's to handle. When Braden was taken out he had given up one run on two hits through seven innings. David DeJesus did all the scoring with his monster blast in the second inning. Luckily this is a long season.

So just like that after you say something bad about the bullpen they come in and do the job to preserve the win for starting pitcher Josh Outman. Outman went seven strong innings giving up just one run. The A's had a chance in the first inning to add to the 2-1 lead they had but they left the bases full of A's. Michael Wuertz came in and as he has done every appearance for Oakland shut the door on the Tigers. The final game of the series is coming up and it should be a good one.

Well thank goodness that series is over. Trevor Cahill got the start for the A's and again he was terrible. Not too sure what is going to happen to him but something better change or it will be bye-bye to him. The A's GM has no problem trading anyone. The move for Vlad looked pretty good in the beginning of the game because he started his career with the A's with an RBI double and eventually scored which would be the only two runs the A's would get. Short two-game series against the Red Sox up next.

A's Busy on Trade Front
The Oakland A's were at it again trying to make their club a contender. Today they shipped Kevin Kouzmanoff and Edwar Ramirez to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for slugger Vladimir Guerrero. "I have liked Vlad his entire career and couldn't be happier that he is part of this organization" GM said. Mike Moustakas was called up from AAA to take Kouz's place in the lineup.

The A's displayed some power in the first game of this brief two-game series against Boston hitting three homers total which chased starter Beckett after four innings. Brett Anderson was dynamite picking up his first win of the season. Vlad went 2-4 including his first homerun as an A's player. Are things turning around?

Spoke too soon. Stephen Strasburg got his second start in the American League and received his second loss. He pitched pretty good once he was settled in but the A's bullpen didn't help matters allowing 3 runs which proved too costly for them to come back. This team is in need of a nice little win streak. The A's are heading out for a 6-game road trip against division foes the Mariners and the Angels.

Is it fun for you to make all these not ever going to be true trades? Just whenever i play i try making as real as possible and that is always fun. Just wanted to see what your take on this "taking advantage" on the horrible trade system.

For the most part I like trying to be as real as possible. Sometimes though it saves me from getting bored with the team I am using to get players that I wouldn't normally have the chance to get.

A combination of a solid effort from the starting pitcher Dallas Braden and back-to-back homers by rookie Mike Moustakas and Orlando Cabrera gave the A's all they need to defeat the Mariners 2-1. Andrew Bailey came in for the save in the bottom of the ninth and looked like a man on a mission taking care of business rather quickly. It was a well played and pitched game from both sides with Oakland coming out on top.

If you would have said that Josh Outman would have outpitched Felix Hernandez I would have asked for some of whatever you were smoking. But it happened in Seattle. Although Felix went eight innings, Outman allowed only one run to the Mariners to pick up his second win of the season. Andrew Bailey came in for his 6 save of the season. The A's are on their way. Not sure where they are going but they are headed there.

Ok so the tank is where they are heading. Trevor Cahill the "Ace" of the staff can't buy a win. Seems like when he has a good outing the team doesn't hit the ball or score. Should he be traded? The A's lost this one 2-0 and were only able to get a handful of hit of Mariners starter Bedard. Last game of the series is coming up.

Brett Anderson had a one-hit bid broken up in the bottom of the ninth but the A's held on for the win 3-2. Andrew Bailey came in to help Anderson out of the jam and was successful for his seventh save of the season. The A's are still struggling at the plate and hit below .200 for the four-game series but that was enough as they take this three games to on. Off to the Angels.

Stephen Strasburg was dynamite and led the A's to a 4-2 victory. The only blemish on the game was when Strasburg served up a two-run shot in the 7th inning. The A's bats were alive collection 14 hits which is great since they have been pretty silent lately.

Dallas Braden made one mistake in his start. He threw a meatball to Vernon Wells in the bottom of the 8th which was all they needed to beat the A's 1-0. This was the tale of two games. Last game they hit everything and this time it was real hard to get anything going. The loss drops the A's out of 2nd place in the AL West.

Well the bullpen didn't do their job as the A's drop the series finale 5-3 on the strength of a two-run walk-off homerun by Vernon Wells. Josh Outman got the start and was tremendous but once he handed the ball to the pen they let him down. The A's are starting to score a little so lets home they can improve during the homestand.

Trevor Cahill became the ace that the team expected going seven innings and allowing only one hit. Fielding miscues led to the Rangers only run but rookie Mike Moustakas put the A's up for good in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot which preserved the win for Cahill. The A's bullpen came in and shut the door throwing two scoreless.

Brett Anderson had a tough inning which allowed the Rangers to score all of their runs. The A's weren't able to climb out of the 4-0 hole but made things interesting by scoring two runs. Grant Balfour continued to dominate out of the pen still not allowing any runs yet this season. Inconsistency seems to be the name of the game in Oakland.
Game 3

What was I saying about inconsistency? Stephen Strasburg was ineffective all afternoon and gave up three runs which would have been plenty but Josh Hamilton wanted to put his stamp on it in the 9th inning by smashing a three-run homer. The A's drop this game 7-1. Doesn't seem like the A's can stay good or even mediocre several games in a row.
Game 4

Dallas Braden got the start in the series finale against the Rangers. This was a long four game series and unfortunately for the good guys they lost three of them. A big third inning was all Texas needed to leave victorious with a 5-2 score. Lorenzo Cain opened the game with a homer for the A's and the assumption was made that they were going to end the series tied. That wasn't the case. Next up is the Cleveland Indians then the A's are heading out on the road.

The A's came out swinging in the series opener against the Indians scoring five runs in one inning. Josh Outman got the start and was tremendous until he was injured. Outman was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. Rich Harden came into the game in the fifth and was going to finish the game until he was injured. The severity is unknown at this time. Injuries are a part of the game but when a team is struggling it hurts them even more.
Game 2

Consistent is not a word I would use to describe the Oakland A's. After taking it to the Indians the game before they come out and have a poor outing once again by "Ace" Trevor Cahill who allowed 6 runs in just a few innings of work. Starter turned long reliever Gio Gonzalez did a fine job out of the pen but the A's bats couldn't get the out of the hole they were in dropping the middle game of the series 7-4.

Brett Anderson and Chris Perez were dynamite in the game striking out everybody. Andrew Bailey got the call for his 10th save of the year with a 3-0 lead and ended up getting his first loss of the year after serving up a grandslam to Travis Hafner. "Things better change around here or heads are going to roll" GM said as he left the stadium very upset. A's heading out on a roadtrip hopefully to sort things out.

Stephen Strasburg threw a complete game two-hitter allowing one run while striking out nine the A's victory over the Kansas City Royals. Mike Moustakas put the A's up for good with his two-run homer early in the game. It was nice to not have to use the bullpen today since they usually ruin good starts by the pitchers.

We will see your complete game by the starter and we will raise you a shutout. That is what the Kansas City Royals did the the A's in the second game of the three-game series. Royals starter Vin Mazzaro was electric out there only giving up a couple of hits. "It sucks" A's GM said of the inconsistency that his team is dealing with. They need to rebound if they want to take a run at this thing. Sure it is only the beginning of May but you don't want to find yourself too far back going into June.

Bobby Cramer was called up from AAA due to all the injuries and pitched a solid seven innings as the A's win the game and the series against the Royals by the score of 9-3. The A's bats were hot and didn't let up at all which is a great sign. Things are looking ok.

Brandon Webb owned the A's in this one striking out a ton of hitter. Trevor Cahill had another poor outing picking up his 6th loss. After the game the A's GM sent Cahill packing on a move that will get a mixed review since he went to a divisional foe. A's stunk in this on. The score was alot closer than the game was.

Classic pitchers duel with the Rangers coming out on top and hitting the A's while they are down by the score of 2-1. Brett Anderson was on the hill for the A's and did a good job. The problem is that the A's don't want to score when he is on the mound which makes things real difficult. Newly acquired Doug Fister came in in relief and did a real good job keeping the A's in it.

The series finale was a letdown. Stephen Strasburg got the start and did a good job until the bullpen allowed things to blow open. Strasburg left when the game was 4-2 Texas and the bullpen allowed five runs in the two innings of work just to be sure they didn't have a chance to comeback. Season is slip sliding away.

Cahill's Struggles Land Him in Seattle
Oakland A's starting pitcher Trevor Cahill packed up his 6 losses and headed to Seattle in a trade that landed the A's Michael Pinead, Doug Fister, and Dustin Ackley. "There was no way I wanted to see Cahill pitch in the yellow and green again. He was terrible" GM said after pulling the trigger. It is a good deal for the A's as they pick up their second baseman of the future as well as getting two good young arms. Hard to believe they made a trade with a divisional foe. Hopefully for the A's it doesn't come back to get them.

Dallas Braden was sharp and the A's bats got them out front early and for good as the A's take game one of the three game set against the White Sox 4-2. Andrew Bailey made things interesting in the top of the 9th when he allowed bases loaded but was able to regain his form and pick up his 10th save of the season.

Bobby Cramer made his second career start and pitched a good game. The only problem is that he gave up two runs and his friends in green and gold could only get one run of White Sox starter Edwin Jackson. The A's are slipping out of the picture and need t start getting things done.

Oakland toppled by Chicago in non-divisional game. It took a while, but the Athletics eventually lost to the White Sox at home 4-3, in 10 innings. Adam Wainwright received a no-decision despite giving up only 3 runs over 8 innings. Mitchell Boggs who entered the game in extra frames was on the hook for the defeat giving up one run in one inning of relief. Mike Moustakas had only one hit but it went the distance. A's drop another series 2-1.

Vlad Experiment is Over
The A's have decided to end the Vladdy era early as they ship him to the national league. "It was a shame to see him go since his has been one of my favorite players" A's gm said. The A's are pitcher whores as they receive Adam Wainwright and Mitchell Boggs. It is amazing who is available for who in this game but the trade needed to be made. The A's staff looks real real good if only they could be as good in a game as they are on paper. We will see if this was the right move for the A's.

Michael Pineda was knocked around in defeat to the Angels. The Athletics lost the AL West contest by being shutout by Jared Weaver and the gang 5-0 in the series opener. Things are getting pretty depressing around here and it is going to take a miracle to get back to .500
Game 2

The Oakland A's got swept by the Angels losing the game 6-2. The A's jumped out to an early lead but meatball pitches by Brett Anderson allowed the Angels back in the game and eventually took control of it and ran. The A's are on a fast down spiral and it is not good.

Stephen Strasburg picked up his 5th win of the season with an 8 inning gem. The offense didn't really come through too much but the two runs they scored was enough to secure the win. Game two of the series is coming up.

You win some and you lose more. That is in the A's case anyway. Oakland dropped another one but was almost no-hit by Minnesota's Brian Duensing. The A's got on the board and closed the gap at the end but too little too late. Interleague play is upon us. Giants up next.

Adam Wainwright picks up his first win as an Oakland Athletic as the A's beat the Giants 7-5 in the first of three in the series. Interleague play is here and hopefully the A's can win a couple here before heading to LA to face the Angels.
Game 2

Michael Pineda pitched very well. The only problem is that Tim Lincecum pitched even better. The A's were shutout in the second game of the series with the score 2-0. Both runs came in the first inning for the Giants which is a good sign if you are a fan of Michael Pineda. Unfortunately for him he was sent down after the start and Rich Harden is getting his spot in the rotation.

Big Trade in Oakland
Oakland struck a deal with the Marlins in the late hours of the night. Upset by the way he has blown saves and such, Andrew Bailey is heading to Miami with Adam Wainwright and Cliff Pennington. In return the A's received Hanley Ramirez, Leo Nunez. and Anibal Sanchez. "We gave up a good pitcher with Wainwright, but our return got us a little excited" GM said. It is weird for a team to make moves when they are so far behind. Keep a close eye on things.

Rich Harden throws a complete game and the A's take the second game of the series. It is nice to see the month of May go away as the A's went 10-20. They need to build on these last two wins.

I am an A's fan and have been following, don't worry about what anyone yes about how you run your team or who you trade or whatever.. you have to play the game your way to make it fun. however that is you have to do it or you will get bored with it.
I myself have long since given up on mlb the show 11' and have gone back to 08' i will be starting a thread here about them soon. it is a completely fantasy drafted team. i do have some questions for you about how you set you your franchise.
1. what level are you playing on?
2. What slider set (if any) are you using?
3. are you hitting and or pitching with stick or buttons?
4. How long have you been playing the show series?
keep up the good work, oh one more question, where did you find that nice stat table your using for league leaders, or did you create it yourself?
